Hello! I was wondering if anyone had posted a list anywhere of ALL the discs currently being manufactured and their attributes. The individual companies do a very good job of giving attributes as compared to the other discs in their line, but there is no way for me to know how, say, a Flash compares to a Viking, etc... without buying one of each or asking on this board every single time, which I'm sure can get annoying for the more seasoned people who have thrown every disc under the sun. I'm pretty sure I'm not in the running for a sponsorship right now, so information like this would be extremely valuable for me since I've got one or two gaps I'd like to plug in my game and I don't want to have to purchase 8 discs to figure it out. Any info? Thanks!

I don't think this has been updated for awhile, but it should get you started. From here you could go directly to the mfg. websites to further break down differences.

I use Blake's site quite a bit. Also, both

http://www.sunkingdiscs.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?

and

http://www.teepad.bigstep.com/DiscCharacteristicSpreadsheet.htm

are retailers that have assigned numbers to all the discs they sell using Innova's flight rating system. You're going to get different ideas about how each disc flies from person to person, so realize that you may get a range of flight descriptions for any given disc.

I see no problem with asking about specific discs on here or on Blake's site either.

Marshall Street (http://www.marshallstreetdiscgolf.com/disc_golf_flight_guide.html)
and
Wright Life (http://www.wrightlife.com/site/store/dcs/b) also have their own ratings.

i had a needlessly overcomplicated ratings system that i was working on a few years ago but abandoned the project when the volunteers working with me failed to come through with the base ratings and in turn, i lost my sponsorship for the project (sponsorship = sending the team 1 of every disc on the market in exchange for use of the finished system). i pressed forward and did it myself to the extent that i could, but eventually lost the motivation to continue.

the basic system i had developed was one that was to be initially rated from 0 to 10 on a relative scale. e.g. the fastest disc on the market = speed 10, disc with the most fade = fade 10, etc. after the initial set were developed, future discs expressing characteristics beyond the initial discs would be allowed to break beyond the limits of those numbers. the fastest disc available back then was probably the valk or reaper... a disc like an orc or flash would have been an 11-12 range of speed.

the long run idea of the project was to be able to develop 3-4 stage pictures of flight path tracing it from start to finish in a series of frames describing each portion of disc flight, basically mixing/matching what each number would look like. e.g. turn of 1, turn of 2... turn of 10, etc. would have a corresponding frame in the early half of the flight and would match up with the next frame.

the list i have is quite old now and i would probably rate a few of the discs differently (mainly in speed), but overall i feel it still captures the relative comparisons between the discs that had been evaluated.

Also, I have a wish that all disc producing companies put out a list of the number of discs produced for each model. That way not only the people close to vips of each company, but everyone can opt to buy disc that are produced in low numbers and have a good chance of being collectible.

Those lists are very helpful, but sometimes I still have to purchase one of each to get an understanding of the disc's dynamics.

I would like to see more comparisons. For example, how does a crush compare to a flash or a flick? I know the stability is different: flash, crush, flick, in that order.

I had a crush, traded it for a flash, flash go bye-bye in a like (flipped for me).

But, sometimes you get a pleasant surprise. I ordered an Xpress thinking it was gonna turn right (I'm not sure how I got that idea), it doesn't turn right for me, but it is now my longest straight driver. I had no idea it would be such an effective distance driver for me until i threw it.

www.teepad.com (http://www.teepad.com) has a fairly useful list as well. It has helped me a couple of times.
