It says on the membership form Junior < 19, that you qualify as junior, however I heard from a few sources that if your 19 OR younger that you can still qualify as junior. I am 19, and will turn 20 on August 14th, and am thinking about joining PDGA, just not sure if it'd be legal to join junior if I'd have to join as Amateur.

They just changed it this year, but I think you cannot join as a junior. Under the new rules, if are 18 and will turn 19 during this calendar year, you can compete in the under-19 divsion all year long.

Under the old rules you had to be under-19 on the last day of a tourney to play under-19 division.

I'm pretty sure that's how it works.

It is under 19 but if you turn 19 during that season you are able to play juniors for the whole year. Which means if you were born in 1986-2005 you are eligible to play juniors.

It is under 19 but if you turn 19 during that season you are able to play juniors for the whole year. Which means if you were born in 1986-2005 you are eligible to play juniors.

Actually, the category is "19 and under" (see Terry Calhoun's post here (http://www.pdga.com/msgboard/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=293358&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=365&fpart=1)), so it is at least arguable that, e.g. a person who turned 19 on Dec 31, 2004, and therefore would fall within the "19 and under" age group for 364 days during 2005, would be eligible to register as and/or compete in the "Junior 19 and under" division.

That being said, this is more a problem of terminology rather than intention, since it is clear from the 09/27/04 PDGA Board minutes (page 3) that the intent of the change in terminology from "under 19" to "19 and under" was to allow an 18 y.o. who registered as a Junior and turned 19 during the calendar year to finish out the year as a Junior, rather than to allow tose who were 19 y.o. at the start of the calendar year to compete as Juniors. (It is also clear that "19 and under" does not reflect that intention. Given the Board's rationale for the change in policy: "the age related divisions for Juniors would be based upon the year of birth, which is consistent with the current format for Senior age protected divisions," the categories should be "18 and under," "15 and under," "12 and under" and "9 and under" since the counterpart to the phrase "at least (x) years of age in the year the event begins" used in the eligibility requirements for Senior age-protected divisions, is "(y) years of age or less in the year the tournament begins." (Strictly speaking, the phrase should be "at most (y) years of age"; unfortunately, that phrasing introduces complications similar to those created by "19 and under."))

Yes, it's by calendar year, therefore if you turn 20 this year, you cannot play juniors ever again.

So a bit of a bump here to clarify...

I turn 19 on January 13th, 2006. Can I or can I not register as a junior for the remainder of '05/06?

Yes. You can play Junior in the 19 and under division thru the end of 2006.
