I just wanted to let everyone know about Highbridge Hills, the new 9 course complex in High Bridge WI. When complete, I do not doubt that this complex will be among the very best places to play disc golf anywhere in the world. Chuck Kennedy among others has created several challenging and balanced courses, with multiple tees and multiple placements. The terrain boasts natural rock faces, steep inclines. Many natural water hazards, waterfalls, sharp mature tree lines and wide spectacular fifty mile vistas! I can safely say these courses are worth the trip north to Ashland!! This facility could and SHOULD host Am worlds or even Pro Worlds within five to ten years! There is a dedicated local crew who all left lucrative jobs to develop these courses. Here are a couple pics which do not do the course justice, as it was extremely foggy and somewhat damp, owing to this year's weather oddities. Also- that Putt.... Went In!

Pete is right!
Highbridge Hills is worth the drive.
Even now, in it's infancy, Highbridge Hills rivals the best courses in Wisconsin.

Maty H., Steve V.and I got to play Blueberry Hills and Granite Ridge in the sun on Saturday. Bryan was kind enough to take time away from spreading hay on the fairways and guide us through the Blueberry course. We took along the golf cart. The course has a nice mix of air it out, tight technical touch shots and strategically placed pins.
Bryan had to get back to work after Blueberry Hills.
W skipped lunch and headed over to play Granite Ridge even though we were pretty tired. The hills are BIG. Chuck said we were the first ones to play the full Granite Ridge course from the freshly poured long t-pads on Saturday. Oh, the pads are perfect too! The course kicked our butts, but we were smiling the whole time.

We played both courses again in the rain and fog on Sunday. I really liked playing in the fog on Blueberry Hills on Sunday. I felt like I was on a Scottish Highland course with the fog, ball golf (that's what it was originaly built as) like fairways, mature trees and steep rolling hills.

I played close to the same on Granite and improved by 9 on Bueberry. Both courses can be scored on but they can bit you the way Tower Ridge, Standing Rocks or Kaposia can.

Word from Chuck and John is that the 11,000 foot Highbridge Gold course will be in the ground by the end of the month. I'll be finding a way to get to Highbridge again when that course is done. Two additional courses may be completed yet this year. Keep your fingers crossed. Better yet, send your teenage kid to work up there for the rest of the Summer.

If you get there, make sure you thank everyone involved for all the hard work. John and his family, Chuck, Bryan, Brita and Slic are getting a chance to build something truly amazing and I envy them. This will be the model by which disc golf "facilities" will be measured. The bar is being set VERY high people.

Go check it out!

I think the picture Brita took of Pete jump putting is the best disc golf pic I've seen this year. When she saw on the back of her camera that she got the shot, apparently she exclaimed something like, "Yeah!" Pete of course thought she was shouting that because he had just sunk that 60-ft putt. :)

I'm wondering if any other TDs have ever needed to modify tournament round timing as a result of fog? Or maybe players have played in an event affected by "unplayable" fog?

I delayed the start time for the first round at Highbridge by about 75 minutes because the visibility was no more than 100 feet. With a new course, players barely knew their way around even if they could see well. About 10:45, I decided we would just start at 11am even if it didn't get better and players would just need to send out spotters. Even if it went very slow, it was better than sitting around. We also knew that the visibility was getting better near the bottom of the hill. As it turned out, we had to deal with fog for about 6 holes, then it cleared up for the rest of the round.

Man, now I really want to see these pics....

We got kicked off Aspen because of fog (or were they actually clouds ). I guess some kind of storm was moving in. We had to leave town and I still haven't played past hole #13. It was kind of cool when I drove a hole that was listed around 475' and my disc disappeared into the fog. I looked forever and gave up only to find it behind the basket when my buddies were putting out. So, that means I can drive over 475' right? ;)

Jeff,

You didn't get it right either. Geocities and Yahoo block hot-linked pictures, so you can't host them there and display them here. You need to create an html page to display them on the site, or find a host that allows hot-linking.

Or send the pics to me and I'll post them on one of my servers so they can be viewed in the thread.

--Josh

if you send them, send them to webmaster @ nefa.com rather than the email in my profile.

I know that. But Geocities takes about 1/2 day to block the hotlinking. They were up for most of today for people to see. I've sent them to you for posting.

I want to see this place!

Anyone interested in capturing some video from Mecca to share with others through Disc Golf Live?

Or if anyone has a link to the owner/operators, that would help since they might want to do the shooting themselves.

Thanks.

Hey thanks for posting those again. I use yahoo groups, and it shows up on my computer, but oh well. So I will be headed up north for the Sucker River Open next weekend, and I may get the chance to swing over to the Highbridge Hills course later in the season and take some video. I Should have done a video tour, but definitely next year, when MN will be hosting a B tier there in the fall, the Discraft Fall Open!!

See you in Columbus today!

Pete

Unless something has changed, the Discraft Fall Open B-tier is THIS year on Oct 9-10. Two rounds Saturday and one round Sunday plus a Final 9. Everyone will play all three courses since Highbridge Gold will likely open in August.

Pete, I've heard you've already captured some nice video during your travels. Peter Wyngaard mentioned something of the sort a few months back, at least. If you've got stuff to share, let me know. Anything from the Am Nats?

Yes, I have several of the final nines, as well as some general footage and round play of most of the tourneys I've been to. I'm collecting and creating a DVD as I go. I don't have any from Am Nats last year but I should make a video for them this year! If we get enough MN players who need a ride, I'll be driving, caddying and videoing- a nice break from the competition... I am going to go early today and capture some of the am cards playing Brent Hambrick before our 2:00 tee time!

Man,
I have to get up to this place. I've been following it's creation and it looks to be everything they said it would be and more. I'll have to put Oct. 9-10 down on the schedule.

Pete, make sure to invite the traveling pros at Hambrick to head to the Manitowoc, WI B-tier next weekend (no A-tiers anywhere) then they can hang out inexpensively at Highbridge for a few days on the way to the Majestic.
