National Tour Abuzz Heading into Carolina Clash This Weekend
by Dr. John G. Duesler, Jr.

After almost a month off, the 2010 PDGA National Tour will roll into Charlotte, North Carolina with great energy and excitement as the Carolina Clash gets ready to start.  With one of the most thriving regional communities in all of our sport, North Carolina is poised to once again take its place amongst the leading disc golf cities.  And looking at the field, you can see that the touring players share in the enthusiasm.

Our early season NT winners, David Feldberg and Ken Climo, will be there, as will the rest of the star-studded field.  Avery Jenkins, Nate Doss, Josh Anthon, Nikko Locastro, Eric McCabe, Barry Schultz, and local favorite Brian Scheweberger will all be battling it out on the Hornet's Nest and Renaissance courses.  Yet it may be the return of 2001 World Champion Cameron Todd that has the disc golf world buzzing about this weekend's NT.  Todd seems to be rejuvenated with the sport, playing a high-profile role last weekend at the United States Collegiate Championships in Augusta, Georgia.  Whether he can shake off the rust of sitting out the last few years on the disc golf tour remains to be seen and will provide great intrigue during this three-day event.

Tournament Director, Bill Jacobson, no stranger to running big events, believes that it is actually the venues that makes Charlotte a great draw.  "What really makes the Carolina Clash a special event are the courses we have in Charlotte," Jacobson said.  "We are blessed to have Stan McDaniel here as our course designer, and he has done an amazing job."

Having the National Tour return to Charlotte is also a great boost for the sport locally.  "This means a lot to our local disc golf scene, since we get to showcase the sport and help it grow here in Charlotte," Jacobson was pleased to report.  "With an event this size, we get the attention from people who normally would not hear about disc golf."

The PDGA will be covering the Carolina Clash this entire weekend, so make sure to visit www.pdga.com for all the action and results.
