Next Generation Tour Announces $100k National Championships

New Location. New Format. Cash Prizes.

Monday, June 3, 2019 - 13:03

The Next Generation Tour is proud to announce the 2019 Next Generation Tour National Championships to be contested in Austin, Texas, on November 8-10. The National Championships is an invite-only PDGA B-tier event with invitations going only to those who earn enough points on the Next Generation Tour throughout the year to qualify.

Not your average amateur disc golf competition, the National Championships is offering $50,000 in cash payouts (to those who wish to change their amateur status to professional) plus an additional $50,000 in player packs and prizes.

“Part of Next Gen’s mission is to help bridge our top amateurs into the professional ranks. We take that vision another step this year,” said David Feldberg, the tour’s co-founder.

The Next Generation Tour is perhaps best known for awarding new cars and trips to Europe to its winners in the past, but this year they are taking it a step further, offering amateur competitors a chance to go pro by taking home cash instead of prizes. While many amateurs turn pro at a local event for a few hundred dollars or less, the Next Generation Tour National Championships will give amateurs an opportunity to take home thousands of dollars to help kickstart their professional career. Players will, of course, have the option of declining the cash and may choose for a traditional prize payout to retain amateur status.

In addition to the usual field of Advanced division competitors, the National Championships is expanding in 2019 to include the top Advanced Women and Amateur Masters 40+ competitors as well. All invites are based on Next Generation Tour points which are earned by competing in the 200+ Next Generation Tour events scheduled around the country.

Earning Invitations

  • Advanced - Top point earners by state or country + winners of premier events (max field of 90)
  • Advanced Women - Top point earners in each region + international (max field of 24)
  • Amateur Masters - Top point earners by region + international (max field of 48)
