2017 PDGA Pro Disc Golf World Championships Announced

Wednesday, June 29, 2016 - 13:47

The Professional Disc Golf Association is pleased to announce that the 2017 PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championships for MPO/FPO divisions will be hosted in Augusta, Georgia and North Augusta, South Carolina on June 20-25, 2017. The event will take place on the gold level WR Jackson Course at the PDGA International Disc Golf Center, and on a new gold level course to be constructed at the Hippodrome Disc Golf Complex.

As announced earlier this year, this event will feature only the open pro men and women for the very first time, and all age-based divisions will now compete in their own Masters World Championships later in the year in Grand Rapids, Michigan. "With the launch of this new open only format, we felt we should host the event ourselves the first year on private disc golf dedicated facilities close to our home office so that we can better control the venues, establish the event infrastructure, and set quality standards prior to putting it out for bids.", stated PDGA Executive Director Brian Graham. "Both of these facilities offer a number of other courses that will be open for public play during Worlds week, which we plan on marketing and promoting to PDGA members and recreational disc golfers to come play and then be on hand to spectate at the Open finals."

Augusta hosted the 1996 PDGA Amateur Disc Golf World Championships and the 2006 PDGA Professional World Championships, and a number of other PDGA Majors, including the US Masters and US Women's Disc Golf Championships have been hosted on the 3 courses at the International Disc Golf Center since it opened in 2007. The Hippodrome is currently home to 5 disc golf courses and is the annual site of the National Collegiate Disc Golf Championships.
