2019 Pro Worlds - Invite Letter

Last updated: Saturday, April 6, 2019 - 15:18

Dear PDGA Tour Player,

Congratulations! You have been invited to enter the 2019 PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championships in Peoria, IL from August 13 through August 17, 2019, based on your excellent performance during the 2018 PDGA tour. The PDGA and the Pro Worlds Team is looking forward to seeing you in Peoria later this year.

Nate Heinold and his team are thrilled to host the 2019 PDGA Pro Worlds and are excited to have you spend some time in Peoria this summer. The Peoria area is a hotbed of disc golf with many great courses in the area. The Peoria Frisbee Club has been around since 1981 and helped host the Peoria Open, which started as a B Tier in the mid 1990’s. They later hosted the Greater Peoria Open and the USWDGC six straight years from 2002 through 2007. More recently, Nate Heinold has stepped up to run the Ledgestone Insurance Open, an annual event that started in 2011. The Ledgestone Insurance Open has grown from a small event to one of the largest events in the country. This event has been run as a National Tour event and as an A Tier 7 times.

Three courses will be used this year, with FPO playing Northwood Blue and Sunset, and MPO playing Northwood Gold and Lake Eureka. Each division will play 2 rounds on each course before a cut to the final round, which will include 45% of the field.

Northwood Park

Northwood has hosted the USWDGC, The Ledgestone Insurance Open, the Greater Peoria Open and countless B Tiers and C Tiers. The course has some open shots but is mostly a wooded course with some orchard type holes. The course has brand new, full color signs as of 3 years ago. The course is centrally located in Morton, IL, which is about 12 minutes from downtown Peoria. Northwood has Mach X baskets. Northwood has adequate parking between the actual park and the small park right across the street for at least 300 cars. Northwood Park has restrooms for males and females and has a nice pavilion near hole 1. Northwood is a very secure park with only one entrance. Northwood is about 3 minutes away from a multitude of gas stations, hotels and restaurants, including the Park Inn by Radisson, which will serve as one of the tournament host hotels. Northwood recently underwent a massive transformation in anticipation of this

event. The gold layout will be a par 63 with a distance of around 9300’. It will feature two massive par 5’s and an SSA near 65. The FPO players will play the blue layout, which will still be much more difficult than the old layout. The blue layout will be approximately 7800’ and will play to a par 62.

Lake Eureka Temp Course

The Lake Eureka Temp course is one of the hardest courses in the world. The course is a temporary course that is built around one of the best parks in the Central Illinois area. This course was originally designed in 2015 and has been tweaked each of the last 3 years. The course will play very similar to the 2018 Ledgestone layout. The current layout is 9700’ and is a par 63. The Lake Eureka property has phenomenal Wi-Fi capabilities and is in the heart of Eureka, IL, approximately 25 minutes from downtown Peoria. The property can park over 600 cars and is located within 1 minute of gas stations and restaurants in Eureka. The nearest hotel would be in Washington about 15 minutes away. The course is set up to be very spectator friendly. The course has multiple pavilions and buildings that we have available for use during the event.

Sunset Hills DGC

This course is a permanent course located on a ball golf course in Pekin, IL, about 10 minutes from McNaughton Park and about 20 minutes from Peoria, IL. This course is located within 2 minutes of 4 hotel options in Pekin, as well as within 3 minutes from many food and gas options. It has some good elevation and is a mostly open course. This course was installed in 2014. We have used this course for the Ledgestone Insurance Open the last few years and this course has also hosted the local AM A Tier as well as two B Tiers. The course distance for FPO players will be 6941’ and will play to a par 59. The course features a full clubhouse with a restaurant and bathrooms. It has parking for over 300 cars, which includes street parking right next to the course.

The final round will be for the top 45% of the field. The FPO division will play their final round at Sunset Hills on Saturday morning (August 17th) and MPO will play their final round at Lake Eureka, with tee times starting in the morning on Saturday and extending to later in the day.

Worlds Warm Up Events

We are planning on hosting a Preview Event at the Lake Eureka Course on Friday August 9th. This event will be a Flex C Tier event and you can start your round anytime between 9AM and 3PM.
