Saturday was moving day for some, but in the case of Ricky Wysocki and Paige Pierce, it was just another day of moving even farther apart from those chasing after them. Both Wysocki and Pierce are heading into the final round of the 2017 Gentlemen’s Club Challenge presented by Innova Champion Discs (GCC) with a chance to walk away at the end of the day as wire-to-wire winners against a majority of the best players in the world.

Referring to it as “chance” might not be the best way to describe it. Round 3 was the last opportunity for the competitors within striking range to make a move before heading into the final round this afternoon but instead of the scores getting closer, the gaps between the leaders and the chasers widened.

Pierce teed off on yet another unusually chilly morning on Friday with a lead of two over her closest competition, Jennifer Allen. The two battled back and forth to open the round on Course adidas TERREX, with Pierce quickly gaining two more on Allen with birdies on holes 3 and 6. Pierce’s lead more than doubled on the hole that followed, the 310’ island hole 7 that ended with Allen tapping in for a quadruple bogey seven against Pierce’s birdie two.

Pierce cruised through the rest of the round to finish with a 997-rated score of two under par (57) and now leads by eight or more heading into the final round this morning. She’ll be joined by Jennifer Allen, Finalnd’s Eveliina Salonen, and Catrina Allen, teeing off on Course Innova at 8:30am PST.

Wysocki also teed off with a lead of two, and much like Pierce he did nothing but pull away from the field. Just four holes in he had already expanded his lead to four, playing smart and consistent golf right out of the gates. Eagle McMahon, JohnE McCray, Paul Ulibarri, Paul McBeth, and several others were doing what they could to catch him, but it’s not easy to catch someone that doesn’t make mistakes.

McMahon takes a birdie on hole 17 with a perfectly executed grenade drive.

Wysocki finished with yet another bogey-free round plus an additional 10 birdies to shoot the best score of the day, a 1066-rated 49. He’s averaging 1064-rated rounds and hasn’t had a bogey since hole 17 of Round 1, his only bogey of the event thus far.

Wysocki now leads by five with just 18 holes to go this afternoon. The lead card will be a fivesome, teeing off at 1:00pm PST, that includes Wysocki, JohnE McCray, Eagle Wynne McMahon, Paul McBeth, and Jeremy Koling. We can only assume that the four world-class players below Wysocki will be doing anything and everything they can to gain strokes, meaning we are in for one heck of a show. It doesn’t get much more exciting than this, folks.
