Wysocki Leads Silver Cup Heading Into Final Round

Sunday, July 10, 2016 - 12:58

The players were ready for Round 3 at the Legacy Discs Silver Cup. A new day brought a new course in the form of Rollin Ridge, a course that is both equally challenging and scenic. The first two rounds being played at Silver Creek put some new names on top of leaderboard.

Nate Perkins #65737, who started the day tied for the lead, is looking to challenge Ricky Wysocki #38008 and put a stamp on his legacy. However, today, at the more challenging and longer Rollin Ridge course, some familiar names would percolate and some seemingly new starts would shine brightly.

Ricky started strong, getting one of the only two eagles on the 1005' par 5 hole 3, putting him two strokes ahead of pack. A birdie on four and Ricky appeared to be in cruise control.

Thru six holes, a handful of players were four down and looking to partake in moving day, especially Devan Owens #25168, who led the Vibram Open a couple days in, Bradley Williams #31644, who won the Vibram Open and Delaware Disc Golf Challenge back to back, both via playoffs and Allen Hermosillo #25345 who was also four down and just one shot out of second.

Interestingly enough, course owner and designer Steve Pisario is a lefty, as are Hermosillo and Owens, which led many to postulate that the course is lefty friendly. It was later learned that another name for Rollin Ridge is Righty Ridge as Pisario was very careful to design a course that was overly fair to rightys.

When looking at the stats, it was clear that the players at the top were finding their way there by hitting their putts. Hermosillo, -28 and in second place, led the putting barrage going 100% in Circle 1 and 80% (4 of 5) in Circle 2. Wysocki, -32 and in first place, was 15 of 17 in Circle 1 (88%), hit 2 of 2 in Circle 2 and drained one from downtown, ostensibly to make up for one of his missed C1 putts.

Matt Dollar #26045 (-28) and Alex Geisinger #52063 (-25) round out the lead card. Dollar led the lead card in greens in regulation, reaching the circles in regulation 78% of the time (Wysocki and Hermosillo were 61% and 67% respectively).

One interesting thing that the Silver Cup is showing us is that the great play of relative newcomers to the disc golf spotlight like James Conrad #17295, Dustin Keegan #35187 and even Bradley Williams to a lesser extent, is not a fluke. These players are just one or two shots off the lead card and are looking to make a move.

Tune in live tomorrow at noon EST, 11 CST for the Pro Tour live broadcast to see who earns the Legacy Discs Silver Cup crown.

Tour Standings will be updated within an hour of the completion of the round. The top 48 earn a spot in the Tour Championship and the top 8 earn a bye into the semifinals. Every point, every shot, matters.
