Wysocki, Allen Pull Away From the Field for the Green Mountain Championships' Final Round

Looking back from the green on the 1150' par 5 hole 7 of Fox Run.

After the opening day in the tightly wooded course of Brewster Ridge, Discraft 2016 Green Mountain Championships switched gears and moved over to the Fox Hill course for round 2 on Friday. The two courses couldn’t be more opposite, as Fox Hill is a much more open and scenic mountain course, but there is one thing that holds true for both. They are both incredibly difficult and incredibly beautiful.

Coming into the round with a six-way tie for 2nd place in the Open division and a slew of others locked up in the field beneath them, there was bound to be some scoring separation. Fox Hill plays well for those that manage to stay inside the hundreds of out-of-bounds stakes that line every fairway.

It’s no surprise that the player in the lead in the Open division is the one that finished bogey-free with only one throw landing out-of-bounds. It’s no surprise once again that he also happens to be the current PDGA Pro World Champion, Ricky Wysocki #38008.

While many other players’ scores were being ravaged by OB penalties, Ricky played smart and stayed safe for nearly the entire round. His only slip-up was a tee shot that went OB on hole 5, but it was close enough to the green for him to sink the putt to save par.

Wysocki now leads the pack by four strokes heading into the final round this morning, playing once again on the Brewster Ridge Gold layout. He’ll be joined by Paul Ulibarri #27171, Jeremy Koling #33705, and Nikko Locastro #11534 on the lead card this morning, none of which are safe by any means from the talent below them.

Catrina Allen #44184 started Friday morning’s round in 2nd place, but that wouldn’t last long. Her amazing round of two under par (61) on Fox Hill left her as the only woman to finish under par for the day. In fact, only 29 of the Open division players shot a better round. Her 1015-rated round gives her a cushion of eight strokes heading into this morning’s round at Brewster, with Paige Pierce #29190 in 2nd, and Val Jenkins #17495 / Sarah Hokom #34563 tied for 3rd.
