USADGC Day One

Friday, June 8, 2012 - 23:14

One round in the books and we have a tight race after the first round here at the 2012 United States Amateur DGC. The four highest-rated players had the earliest tee time and looked to set the bar for the rest of the day. Mark Huether was the man to put up the first low score. Only one player finished with a better score. Mike Sale from Downers Grove, Illinois shot a five under, 57, to finish with a one stroke lead. Along with Mark, Alex Geisinger turned in a 58. Five players carded 59’s and are tied for third place. Chris Reese gets the nod for the lead card thanks to his PDGA number being the lowest of those. The lead group will be the last to tee off tomorrow afternoon at 1:20. We will have live scoring for them here at PDGA.com along with @PDGALive Twitter coverage.

The wind is expected to pick up tomorrow along with the temperature. The competitors are going to have to be mentally and physically prepared to battle the course and maintain their composure, even if they miss a fairway or a tough putt. Surviving and staying relevant for Sunday’s round may be the name of the game tomorrow. Anything can happen as there are 47 players within 5 throws of the lead. Check out the full results and list of tee times.
