USADGC Check-In day

USADGC Check-In day

Thursday, June 10, 2010 - 23:44

No jail time, just Chris Shegitz checking in at the USADGC.

Today was registration check-in, doubles and player meeting at the 2010 U.S. Amateur Disc Golf Championships near Ann Arbor, Michigan. It was a great day in the low 70s at the renowned Toboggan course.

As players checked in, their picture was taken by Discraft Marketing Director, Brian Sullivan. All players will receive a custom Super Color Buzz with their picture on it as a memento of their experience at the USADGC. Below is Steve Slater of Joliet, IL studying his shot from the tight gap just off the tee on #7.

As usual, lizard games maestro, Mark Ellis runs the random doubles as a way for some players (and marshals) to check out the course before singles action. I drew former USADGC TD, Todd White as my partner and we played with Ellis and his partner, local player Ken Parks pictured below driving the monster uphill #2 at 726 feet.

Ellis and Parks just made last cash out of the 18 teams. Local Kevin Tomasaitis and partner, Jeremy Johns from Lafayette, IN took first with a respectable 53 on this tough course. Local (ringer) Mike Raley and partner, Garin Wootten of Austin, TX took second, one back.

The Player Meeting is always well attended because a) the players get free dinner and b) they need to find out their tee times. Of course, it could also be the Lizard Games run by Ellis with valuable disc giveaways. Holdens Party Store and disc retailer graciously hosts the dinner as their sponsorship contribution. Here

Here's the player field flipping their minis just before the Lizard games commence.

Most of these Lizard games involve CTPs of various sorts with the minis. The shot below shows Ellis directing the players to shoot their minis over the volleyball net towards the target mini in the sand.

Players have their tee times. The lower rated early risers may have headed off to bed and the higher rated players might be hanging out a little later with late morning and afternoon tee times on Friday. The groups remain the same on Saturday (not reordered by score) but tee off in reverse order with the top rated players starting early. We might have live scoring on Saturday depending on how well the top rated groups play Friday. Live scoring is planned for Sunday for the top card once players have been shuffled by score.
