With the scorching first day over and the opening rounds in the books players have begun to feel the heat of competition. The first day jitters have settled and players are in full throttle for the remainder of the 2013 PDGA Amateur and Junior World Championships. 

The day opened with leaders established from first day action but these players were here to make some movement. In fact, these rounds on Wednesday were extremely important because the mid tournament shuffle immediately followed day two’s action. 

The shuffle brings the advanced pools scores together, places them in order by score, and separates them according to standing. Players are given new course and pool assignments then action continues. From here on out the course assignments are set and our leaders are playing alongside until the Friday night cut.

In the Advanced Men division Joseph Stettinger of Oklahoma City, OK started the day hanging on to a two throw lead. A battle was on the horizon as Steven Jacobs put together a fantastic pair of rounds to tie Stettinger. 

His play at Jones West in the morning gave him one throw back setting him up with a three throw separation. As the second round unfolded Jacobs quickly gained ground on Stettinger. Jacobs carded a two on hole two while Stettinger took a three. Steadily he gained nine more birdies and two bogies, finishing at a strong -8. Leader Joseph Stettinger settled with a -5 resulting in a tie for first.

Momentum seems to be in the favor of Jacobs right now, but the Emporia Country Club is a long course with plenty of hazards, wind, and out of bounds that come into play. Anything can happen at this course.

On the Advanced women side of the event Kimmy Jones overcame the deficit behind Kristen Chandler in the third round. After the days duel she earned first place as the sun set. She is sitting at +11 right now and is holding onto a slim 2 throw lead. 

Tomorrow the Advanced Women tee off at 8:00 a.m. at Peter Pan Park. This park can be tricky even though it is one of the shorter courses in the event. The fairways generally have out of bounds declared and thick rough may swallow some bad shots. If played well it can be very kind to score on. Movement here is a possibility.  

In the Advanced Masters Division Keith Walker held his lead through round three and finished well above the field. His great second round established a strong lead and left him with a five throw separation from the nearest competitor. In the Advanced Masters Women Side of the event Michelle Jones of Macon, GA shot a stellar third gaining at least three throws on her division. She ended the day at +25 giving her a one stroke lead heading into day three.

Kansas native Tom Butcher took hold of the lead in Advanced Grandmasters heading into day three. His stellar play on the greens gave him hold of a two throw lead to end the day. In the Advanced Grandmaster Women the Lead still belongs to SueB Lande as she extended it to eight throws.

In Advanced Senior Grandmasters Bart Taylor stormed on as the mornings leader, Ernie Small, slipped. Taylor quickly closed the gap and in the end of the day holds a two throw lead on Small. To close it off for the Men’s divisions we have the Advanced Legends. Pete May extended his lead to four strokes and is carrying the momentum with him into day three.

In the Junior Divisions all tournament favorites have the lead. Anthony Barela recovered from falling behing his first round, Austin Pfaff took the lead and ran away, and Nicholas Duran made his move to the top.
