ESTACADA, Ore. – Eagle McMahon knew he had a three-shot lead over his closest cardmate as he headed into hole 12 during Sunday’s Beaver State Fling final at Milo McIver State Park’s Riverbend East Disc Golf Course. He was simply looking to nail down a victory.

Instead of a nail, though, that fastener came in the form of a pin.

ESTACADA, Ore. – For someone who had just shot a 9-under par round to take the lead at the Beaver State Fling, Simon Lizotte wasn’t terribly excited. Dressed head to toe in black, his sartorial choice matched his somber mood.

“If I could finish rounds, I’d be really good,” he said, resignation in his voice.

Steve Hill and Sara Lamberson recap the action from the Amateur World Doubles Championships (1:40) before breaking down the Jonesboro Open. Ricky Wysocki got his first win of the year (6:27), Garrett Gurthie put on a show (11:11), and Paige Pierce continues to dominate (22:56). Eric Oakley shares a pro tip (43:01) before Gurthie stops by to talk about his decision to return to tour (44:10). Later, the hosts look ahead to this week’s National Collegiate Disc Golf Championships in South Carolina (1:00:30).

If it seems like Garrett Gurthie is playing like a man trying to make up for lost time, perhaps that's because he is.

Plenty changed in the three years he was away from disc golf, and the Florida native took notice. Now back on tour full time, he's making good on his decision to hit the road. And he's ready for his close-up.

Paul McBeth was on a historic pace Friday at the Waco Annual Charity Open. A near impossible eagle connection through a wooded jail on Brazos Park East’s 15th put him at 10-under par through nine holes, and it looked as if a vintage performance was in the making.

With a combined slate of 15 events in 2018, the PDGA National Tour and the Disc Golf Pro Tour are creating an opportunity for more professional disc golfers to pack up their cars, vans, and RVs and trek from sea to shining sea. Add in the various PDGA Majors and the Pro Tour Championship, and that number swells to almost 20 stops – and that doesn’t include the well-attended A-Tiers that provide players another shot at competing in the interim weeks.
