563 feet. That’s the average hole length on the “Steady” Ed course here at the St. Jude Disc Golf Charity Invitational. Sure, there are OB lines and sand traps, quite a lot of them actually. Hazards or not, when a course is designed with that kind of distance, big arm players are going to gain strokes on the field.

Driving the road that leads down to the clubhouse here at Bayonet & Blackhorse, it’s hard to believe that we’re all here to play disc golf. To top it off, we’re here playing disc golf to support the kids of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. With an incredible view of Monterey Bay as the backdrop, a meticulously manicured golf course, and perfect weather, what more could we ask for? Even the warm-up area is amazing!

The first round of the 2nd Annual St. Jude Disc Golf Charity Invitational has begun, taking place once again on the incredibly beautiful Bayonet Golf Course in Seaside, CA. Before we break down the ins and outs of the competition, there are several people we need to thank for the work they've done in the days, weeks, and months leading up to their first throws of the weekend.

Good news! We are thrilled to announce that adidas Outdoor has chosen the St. Jude Disc Golf Charity Invitational as the first pro disc golf event they will sponsor. They are providing generous contributions to the players package, silent auction, and tournament prizes.

It is an important milestone in the development of professional disc golf to partner with a company of this stature. In choosing this event, adidas Outdoor highlighted both the exceptional quality of the event and its core mission – to support the life-saving work of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital  -- as key factors in their decision.

On New Year’s Eve of 2011, my nephew, Cole, was two months old. During the night, his breathing became labored and he began coughing up blood. The on-call pediatrician assured the family, over the phone, that he was fine; that it was probably just drainage.

His mother, Caroline, still felt something was wrong and took him to the emergency room in Florence, Alabama. A nurse came to check on him, looked at Cole and immediately grabbed him and rushed him into the treatment area.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the PDGA urges you and your friends to join us as we pursue our partnership in supporting the kids of St. Jude. It's that time of year when disc golf is seen "in giving color" and we need you and your club to become part of this effort! It’s totally FREE to join (unless you are actually competing in the tournament)

Last year, the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) embarked on one of the most significant efforts of its 33-year history by partnering with the renowned charitable organization St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Through St. Jude’s peer-to-peer fundraising platform, approximately 200 disc golfers raised more than $230,000 for the kids of St. Jude! This amazing feat was culminated at the inaugural St. Jude Disc Golf Charity Invitational where some of the 200 competed in the event and others, including clubs from around the country, joined together to help in this philan-throw-pic effort.
