Coming off a day of relentless downpour and gusting winds, everyone was happy to finally catch a break in Emporia just in time for the third and final round of the 2016 Glass Blown Open (GBO). Taking place at the GBO’s signature course, Emporia Country Club, and complimented by sunshine, it was bound to be an eventful day for the largest disc golf tournament in the history of the sport.

Ugh. That’s the only word that can describe how it felt when we stepped outside this morning before heading to Jones East for Round 2 of the 2016 Glass Blown Open (GBO). We had all the fixins’ for an “ugh” kind of day. Overcast, check. Wind, check. Low temperatures, check. Weather conditions aside, the day went off without a hitch. Great disc golf was played and the competition moved forward leaving only what should be an incredibly exciting final round of action tomorrow.

The 2016 Glass Blown Open (GBO) is in full swing with Round 1 in the books and Round 2 underway. Wednesday night’s torrential downpour left many of the courses wet and soggy, but no one would have predicted the chaotic flooding that ensued at Peter Pan DGC.

They say it’s not what you know, it’s who you know. We can think of no better place for disc golfers to get to know other disc golfers than right here at the GBO. We’ve said over and over again that it’s the people that attend this event that make it special. If you are here, you know that and you’ve already had the opportunity to meet some of the over 1,200 disc golfers and spectators in attendance.

Tuesday was an eventful night here in Emporia. With a crash of lightning, the skies above Emporia opened up and released flash flood levels of rain. The six courses that will be the setting for the 14th annual Glass Blown Open hunkered down to brave the storm. Not only would they have to endure the overnight down pour, but they would also need to be ready for the onslaught of disc golfers the following day. Along with the weather came nearly 1,200 participants and spectators that will be part of the largest disc golf tournament in history.
