Tuesday, May 29, 2012 - 16:56

The PDGA National Tour Elite Series presented by Vibram Disc Golf is hitting its stride. The 30th Anniversary of the Kansas City Wide Open, brought to you by the Kansas City Flying Disc Club, will take place on Friday, June 1st through Sunday, June 3rd, in Kansas City, Missouri. The top professional players in the country, as well as, an impressive field of amateurs will be taking on five beautiful layouts in the Kansas City area, including the long and challenging Blue Valley disc golf course. With this event being the third National Tour of the year, only the Beaver State Fling in Portland, Oregon remains until the much anticipated Pro/Am World Championships in Charlotte this July. After Worlds, the Brent Hambrick Memorial and the season-ending Vibram Open at Maple Hill will provide players a chance to climb the NT Point Series standings.

Currently, Paul McBeth has opened up a large lead in the Open division. After gaining NT wins at both the Memorial and the Masters Cup, he is certainly the one to beat for many players looking to move up on the points list. On the women's side, Sarah Hokom is hoping to turn her strong victory at the Master's cup into a serious charge at current leader Valarie JenkinsCatrina Allen is sitting in second place in the standings, having finished in second at each of the first two events. A win in KC would, at the very least, give her a share of the lead.

This weekend in Kansas City could be a definite game changer for both the Men's and Women's Series, so be sure to stay tuned all weekend long for scoring and results for the 30th Anniversary of the Kansas City Wide Open.
