Lundmark & Jenkins win Scandinavian Open
Beautiful weather returned to Skelleftea Sweden on Sunday for the final round of the Scandinavian Open and the sun was shining bright on hometown hero Jesper Lundmark. Lundmark carried a four stroke lead into the final 18 holes and played some of his most impressive golf to win his first PDGA European Major title. His -8 was the lowest round of the day in the Open division and extended the winning margin to eight throws over Nate Doss and David Feldberg. A gallery of approximately 350 followed the action and loud cheers could be heard around the course as Jesper gave the spectators a show that will be remembered in Skelleftea for a very long time. David Feldberg canned a 70 foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to tie current world champion Nate Doss for second.

Ken Climo nearly had to pull himself out of the tournament following the second round on Friday after an arm injury made it nearly impossible to throw but he persevered through the pain and finished strong with a -7 on the final day to finish in the top ten. This feat not only kept intact the twelve time world champions personal record of never withdrawing from a tournament, but more importantly, his record of never finishing lower than the top ten in a PDGA Major.
Valarie Jenkins maintained the six throw lead she had entering the final round to claim the women’s title over Birgitta Lagerholm. Val played steady and consistent golf and never gave Bigitta a chance to gain any ground as they both carded impressive rounds of +3. Carrie Berlogar claimed third place and Sweden’s Ragna Bygde grabbed fourth.
Peter Bygde had the hot round in the Masters division with a -2 but that wasn’t quite enough as Jonas Lindholm’s even par round of 66 was just enough to squeeze out a one stroke victory over his fellow Swedish countryman. Terry Roddy, the lone American in the Masters division field, finished very strong with a -1 to move into third place and claim a spot on the podium and Kari Vesala of Finland took fourth.
At the awards ceremony, PDGA Executive Director, Brian Graham, stated that on a scale of one to ten, the event was an eleven. The traveling American players also gave the tournament and the course at Disc Golf Terminalen rave reviews and they all promised to return for future events. Congratulations to tournament Director, Torbjorn Dagerstrom and Vivi Astrom, who along with the many members of the Skelleftea Disc Golf Club, ran a first class major event that compares to any top tournament in the world.
