Barry Schultz & Valarie Jenkins take the lead in Phoenix

Barry Schultz carded an ace on hole 12 at Fountain Hills on Friday morning to propel himself into the lead over Dave Feldberg in round two of the Memorial. His stellar round of -11 on the par 55 Fountain course combined with his -10 on the par 60 Vista course gives him a three throw lead going into Saturday’s final round at Vista. Feldberg also had a hot round but a triple bogey 7 on hole two opened the door for Barry and he took full advantage by carding a 3 there and gaining four throws on Dave in just one hole. Ken Climo’s -10 propelled him into the lead group along with young Paul McBeth, whose lights out putting amazed all of the veterans in the lead group today.

In the Women’s Open division, Val Jenkins shot a steady even par round of 55 to best Des Reading by two strokes today to grab a one throw overall lead. Val sits at +5 for the tournament with Des at +7. Carrie Berlogar (+9) and Liz Lopez (+11) round out the lead group on Saturday but they have a lot of work cut out for them if they are to catch Val and Des at Vista.

The Master’s division is a very tight race with Alabama’s, Dean Tannock (-13) holding a slim one and two stroke lead respectively over Arizonan’s Mike Milne (-12) and tournament director, Dan Ginnelly (-11). Tom Embree (-7) rounds out the lead group and is tied with Scott Papa and Jerry Harrison.

Kathy Hardyman shot a scorching 58 on Friday to jump out to a five throw lead over Suzette Simons in the Women’s Masters division. Harvey Brandt holds a three stroke lead over Jeff Kennedy and Jeff Stoops with one round remaining for the Grandmasters. Marty Hapner joins the lead group for the finals just a shot off of the Jeff’s. Danny Jeffards holds a very comfortable lead in Senior Grandmasters and looks to be in position to coast to the win on Saturday without too much trouble.
