National Collegiate Disc Golf Championships - Day 2
It was another beautiful sunny day in North Augusta, S.C., for the NCDGC , but OH the WIND!! 144 players hailing from 36 colleges from across the US found their disc golf skills sorely tested by the buffeting wind conditions at the Hippodrome courses today. At midday the wind was so violent that a 10 x10 pop-up shelter broke it’s bonds and was seen tumbling across the turf along Hole One’s fairway like a giant demented metal spider for several hundred yards until it finally came to rest in the OB water behind hole 17’s green. Luckily, no one was in its path and it was moving so fast that no one could even try to stop or they may have been seriously injured.
The scores from today’s rounds highlighted those competitors who knew how to play the wind to their advantage.
The top first round scores were by Nate Bush of Oregon with a 51 from the Hippo blue tees, and the only score in the 40s the first round, a 46 shot by Kyle LaMontagne of San Diego State on the Hogsback Course. Round two’s top finishers were Connor Thompson of Clemson with a 47, Michael Hoffman of Tennessee Tech with a 48, and Zach Moses of Iowa State with a 49, all shot on the Hogback course. Round 2 honors off of Hippo’s Blue Tees were taken by Jason Lynn of Augusta State with a 51 followed by Kevin Lutz of Tennessee Tech and Billy Plant of Purdue who each shot a 54.
After 4 rounds of play at the NCDGC with three rounds left, the battle to be crowned National Champions is raging and the leaders in the Team Standings are:
406 - San Diego State
