This Place is a Zoo!

zooCompetitors are running around everywhere; putting from balconies, hanging out in the Wi-Fi hotel lobby, swimming, shopping, putting off the tennis courts, running back and forth to check the scores at tournament central…we’re pretty much owning Kansas City right now. This atmosphere is wild!

In addition to the “zoo” description of the event, I also meant it literally. Across the street from Pleasant Hill there is a educational facility called Savanahland. You can hear the monkeys cackling (is that the proper term? I am not use to referring to the noise monkey’s make so this is a first)…anyway, you can hear them all across the Pleasant Hill course. It CAN be disturbing, but is also pretty amusing. I guess I can safely say that because I am not competing. Let’s just say the Open players do not play that course. Savanahland opened their gates just so our Juniors could go over after their rounds. It was entertaining to say the least! Mary Ann “Mom” Wallis and I had a ball. *She decided to trade her husband, Bill (aka “Old Man”), in for this chimpanzee. I told her there wasn’t much difference between the two, but at least the chimp doesn’t talk. (Characters in this article are real. The chimpanzee’s name was Aidan. The kangaroo was named Wesley and the spider monkey, bless her heart, was nameless…so I’ll call her Dr. Zoe, PhD. (Pleasant Hill’s Distraction) They really were the cutest things you’ve ever seen…besides the young kids playing in Worlds. Animal lover that I am, I laughed when I saw the kangaroo, because MY mom, Marcia, is actually in Australia right now and she has been bragging about seeing kangaroos; however, the kangaroos she saw were lazy, laying on the ground, and you had to walk up to them to feed them. I was happy to report back to her that I actually got to hold a kangaroo. Her reply was “it isn’t the same as a wild kangaroo”….Mom is always right. Point for her!

It's a tough call though "Mom" Wallis, but here's my pick...
