The Discraft Great Lakes Open wrapped up today on the toboggan course in Milford, MI marking the end of the 5th event in the 2013 National Tour Elite Series. Ricky Wysocki won his 3rd NT event of the year and Sarah Hokom won her second after a 3 day battle against Paige Pierce. With those wins, they both have a nice lead in the points series with only 3 events to go. The next stop on the tour is the Grip Equipment Presents the 31st Kansas City Wide Open next weekend.

Ricky Wysocki didn't break any course records today, but he didn't really need to. He started the final round with a 6 stroke lead over Garret Gurthie and he would finish 9 strokes ahead of him for the tournament. He played all weekend with an injured calf and you could see the pain it was causing him every time he teed off. All he had to do was play smart golf and that's what he did. But, to be fair, that's what he always does. When you can throw forehand and backhand off the tee accurately, and when you can do the same for approaches, playing smart just means playing. He doesn't make a lot of mistakes, and the few times that he did, it didn't matter. His lead was large enough today that he could afford a few of them.

Sarah Hokom and Paige Pierce battled all day yet again. They shot the same scores on round 1 and round 2, and nearly the same score again today. Hokom had a 1 stroke lead after hole 14 and she would hold that all the way through the dramatic finish on hole 18. Off the tee on the final hole, Hokom left herself a low ceiling upshot that she overthrew. That throw gave Pierce the chance to tie the score with a 60' birdie putt. Pierce hit chain links with her jump putt, but not enough to keep the putter in the basket. Hokom was next to putt from near the edge of the circle.

The gallery was silent as she lined up her shot. Her putter hit dead center...and spit out. Paige was left with a 25' putt to tie yet again but she putted low and Sarah tapped in for the win with a bogey. It was an emotional moment as Paige congratulated Sarah with a hug and the crowd responded by cheering for both of them loudly. Catrina Ulibarri finished in 3rd place and Ragna Bygde shot well to finish in 4th from the chase card.

Phil Arthur and Jonathan Baldwin battled all weekend as well in the Masters division. The battle would end today as Phil dominated on the final round and easily took home 1st place. An honorable mention goes out to Jeremy Koling, who would tie Wysocki's course record of 12 under during his the final round. His hot round boosted him all the way to a tie for 6th place. It was also the highest rated round of the tournament at 1077, unofficially.
