the 2014 European Masters

Tuesday, December 17, 2013 - 14:59

The Professional Disc Golf Association has awarded major status to a new event in Sweden. The European Masters will be played at the Järva Disc Golf Park on July 17th-21st, 2014.  European Masters will take the torch from the Stockholm Disc Golf Open (SDGO), which is the oldest continuously run disc golf tournament in Europe.

“Having a possibility to continue SDGO´s long tradition is a great honor to us. We want to bring our promotional expertise to the table and develop this tournament further. Having an event of this caliber on the best course in Europe gives us a lot of opportunities to promote this great sport of Disc Golf”, says Jussi Meresmaa, Chairman of the organizing committee.

The tournament will have only two divisions: Open (MPO) and Open Women (FPO). Field is limited to 144 players. Jussi is looking for a really high-class competition with lots of overseas players. Tentative prize purse is 280,000 SEK ($40,000+).

Järva Disc Golf Park is Europe´s first pay-to-play course, founded in 1996.  Course owner Mats Löf will create the tournament layout for the European Masters, adapting the acclaimed course design used in SDGO 2012.

The registration for the European Masters opens on February 5th and the tournament organization is expecting a full field of 144 players taking part this year. The registration will be completed in two phases based on PDGA ratings. In the first phase, all MPO players rated 975 or higher and FPO players rated 925 or higher can secure their spot. More information about the registration and the qualification standards can be found on the tournament website.

The European Masters 2014 is hosted by Innova Champion. All inquiries about the event should be made to Event Producer Jukka Teräs.
