The 2012 European Disc Golf Championship will be played on the Classic Course of Wivenhoe Park in Colchester, United Kingdom at the University of Essex on August 15-18. Host to the 2011 British Disc Golf Open, the 18 hole course was redesigned in preparation for hosting the tournament, which will feature many of Europe’s top players competing for continental bragging rights.

The European Disc Golf Championships were previously held at Essex in 1982 and the Open Division winner that year is this year’s EDGC Tournament Director, Charlie Mead. S,o for the 30th anniversary of this event Charlie and the EDGC team have designed a course that is demanding for the best and challenging to all of the 196 competitors from 15 countries who will be competing in the event.

The emphasis of the European Championship is on bringing all aspects of a Major Disc Golf event together on one site. There will only be one 18-hole course which every competitor will play once a day. All accommodations will be on the course. All meals will be available on the University of Essex campus. All parties and social events will be based in the University facilities including a large Saturday night party, BBQ, trading night, as well as a Wednesday meeting between PDGA Executive Director, Brian Graham and all European PDGA country coordinators.

2012 is a special year for Great Britain with the hosting of the Olympic Games and the Paralympics in London from July 27 to September 9, 2012. The University of Essex is a major training center for Olympic and Paralympic teams and a number will be staying on the campus before and during the Games. Colchester is only 50 minutes away from the Olympic Park and is a popular venue for athletes and tourists alike.
