Default Bring back Pro World Doubles

What's the problem, PDGA? I have been harping on this since it was discontinued following the Worlds @ Highbridge. I would love to play in Pro World Doubles and I know a lot of other players that want to play.

They discontinued the one-day Pro World Doubles side game because Houck was running it as a stand alone event. It looks like this year Houck did not run it, at least not in April or May.

Did you want it back as a one-day side event at Pro Worlds or as a stand alone event?

One of my favorite (if not THE favorite) tournaments are the Am World Doubles. Two days, 4 rounds, varying formats, different courses, same partner!
I can't see why Pros would think any less (of doubles) than Ams do / would. It's great!
Wimbledon has both singles and doubles (as does the US Open, etc.). Ball golf has their "doubles" tournaments (Ryder Cup, et al). We (in disc golf) ALWAYS play some form of doubles; it's a logical continuation to have championships of 'types of formats' in a sport.

Default Pro World Doubles at Lemon Lake?

I would like to see the pro doubles be part of Pro Worlds @ Lemon Lake. It should/could coinside with the regular Worlds schedule. It could easily take place a couple days before singles competition begins. I can't think of a better way to practice the courses in a competitive manner before the singles competition begins. Plus, doubles is way more relaxed and fun than singles, even at this level.

Thank you, Karl, for the testemonial on world doubles. I think the majority of the players feel the same way.

Normally, the doubles run in conjunction with Worlds are run as a CX-tier. If they wanted to include it, but did not have volunteer TDs to run it, I'd volunteer to run it and maybe see if my brother Jon or Krupicka wanted me to help them run it. I'd not run it against the Mixed Doubles or the field events, but on a different day from either of those. I've helped run an IOS A-tier at Lemon Lake. I've run lots of tournaments and I've run lots of doubles tournaments. I think Svitko and Cummings would be fine with working with me.

If any of those who would like to see it happen want to talk to the appropriate people, and if their only objection is that they don't have the TD manpower to add another event, I'll help you overcome that objection. I'm not so burning to run it that I'm going to take it further than the message board unless you take it further than the message board.

So the offer to do all the TD work is there if you want to talk to the appropriate people.

There have been discussions about running a 2-round World dubs event on Saturday at Valpo. Mixed would be Sunday and Field events Monday. It looks like Valpo might be needed for Worlds singles. I'll be visiting for discussions over the holidays and we'll see what might be possible. Your offer to help run it might tip the scales toward hosting it.

From an administration standpoint, I am very disappointed to hear this. It's far, far easier to run a tournament for 400 people when everyone is all in the same park. Pro Worlds 2007 and 2010 were a dream compared to other Worlds for this reason, and I signed up as a volunteer to help out at the Tim Selinske Masters in North Carolina next May because the event will be held all in one location.

Valpo is a great course and park and it would be awesome to see it used for Mixed Doubles, Field Events, and a possible Pro Worlds Doubles run by Bruce.

I'm not saying, I'm just saying. I'd be very annoyed if it was however used for singles play.

My offer is a serious offer. I don't want to be butting into their show, but if they'd appreciate the help, it's a serious offer.

I've never seen Valpo. For CX World Dubs I'd get out there a few times and learn the course.

Rogers Lakewood Park in Valparaiso is a 24-hole layout in its daily config which would allow a larger doubles field although if it's used for singles, it would be an 18-hole setup.

Default It actually may happen this year!

I like the direction this discourse is heading.

One of my favorite parts of Worlds was Doubles. It was always held the day before Singles started. I bet Bill Thornton would help run it, if he is up there again next summer? And yes, you want it on the same course's where you play Singles.

I totally agree with that notion.

Just so that those who care know, I have not heard anything more about this.

See post #10. Still a possibility but only for doubles with further discussions in mid-Feb.

There are discussions with a local group about hosting a doubles event a day before Pro Worlds events start that would be in the vicinity but it may not be "officially" part of Worlds.

My wife and I were TDs for the 2011 Pro Worlds Doubles, at Pinto Lake in the morning and DeLaveaga in the afternoon (2x18 holes), it was great fun. Not sure why every event cannot do the same. In fact, this helped us to work out some final bugs before individual competition began, I highly recommend it.
