I had a gateway Back pack and used it for about 2 years.. the frame always came apart and i ended up tearing up some of the right strap so i duct taped it a bit. IT also never really sat right no matter how much i lengthened or shortened the straps so that was a real pain in the butt, literally.
I now have a Revolution Carolina bag (rust/grey) andhave had it for almost a year. I have had no problems with it yet and am a huge fan of REvolution. It was pricey, especially when you add in the price of Quads, but it was well worth it. The bag is stylish and fits everything i need as well as 2 water bottles. Mine is the old wood frame so I can't tell you much about the new frames except that i plan to pick one up and test it out. hope this helped. -Scott Lewis |

I agree gateway bags are top quality and more affordable than Revo. I would accually compare gorilla boy to gateway as much as revo. I wrote a review you can view (with pictures) here in the equiptment thread. They retail a little cheaper than Gateway, and much cheaper than revo.

We are considering dicontinuing the wholesaling of our bags and sell them only from our site in order to drop the retail price point to be more competive with the pdga and the innova bags.
Our bags are all made right here in ST Louis Missouri USA!!!!! They are top quality from the starter to back pack. We may also do custom embroidery on the bags as well as offer a few more colors! Greatzky, Im not sure which back pak you have ( there were 4 or 5 runs made before the model we produce today) but we have been told the current back pack is the best form fitting and comfortable bag on the market by many players !! Does yours have an inner pocket in the disc area and a re-inforced plastic backing? Sometimes with a lot of use the frames get a little worn, most players tape the the pipes to the connectors once and they never come apart again. there is not a lot of equiment in the parting world that is not customixed by the end user in all sports. telling guys to tape there frame is like tellinga hickey player to tape his stick, you should respect that greatzky Sorry you have had trouble with yours. 5 Years ago we sold 3500 golf bags and now we are down to around 2000 a year, but 5 years ago we sold about 7,000 discs and this year we have eclipsed 50,000! next year our goal is 100,00 discs, if we reach this we can really drop the price on the bags for 2008,,,, we may even give 2000 of them away!!! ![]() ![]() ![]()

Another Revolution Carolina Bag devotee here. The new plastic insert is an improvement as the discs are "right there". Of course don't even get one if you don't get the quad shocks too. My comment is why economize on your bag ? Something you live with every day year after year !

Price isn't really an issue, I'm more looking for quality like Sharky said I'll be using it year after year (I hope). I already have quad shocks as luckily the jeep didnt destroy those. However, just because one bag has a higher cost than others doesn't mean it's better. That reason alone is why I am asking the experts (i.e. people addicted to disc golf like me). Thanks for all your responses. It sounds like Revo is still the way to go but those Guerilla bags sound interseting also. I 'll have to look into those a little more.

This discussion comes up several times each year and it always boils down to this.
If you want cheap go to wal mart and buy a backpack for $7 expect it to last a month or so and you will be miserable with it. If you want to go down the middle get a PDGA/ Innova type bag you will pay 40-70 bucks it will last longer than the wally bag and be a little more comfortable. If you want to treat yourself if you are interested in 100% American made equipment with the best material and workmanship you either buy Gateway or Revolution... Now it looks like gorilla boy wants to fit into that last category and I hope he gets there. my .02

Revolution Backpack is SWEEEEEEEETT, definitely the most comfortable bag I have ever used, and I have used most of them.

I have a Rev Carolina bag and I'm thrilled with it. I've used it hard for about 3 months and it still looks brand new. The injection molded frame has cracked on one end, but not enough to change the shape of the inside of the bag. I highly recommend the Carolina bag.

I'm not sure where to put it, but another mini-disc pouch/pocket would be nice, other than the semicircular zip-pocket on the front putter pouch. This zip pocket is the only secured pocket I would want to trust with any valuables in case my bag were to tip... The side pockets are a tad too deep for easy minidisc retrieval. |

I agree doc smaler zippered areas would be good especially in one of the big end pockets a few small zippered pouches built in would rock. I keep the contents of my pockets in the big pocket at the end but my stuff goes in my KDGA zippered pouch bag then inside that cavernous pocket.

Go Gateway.
I have the Gateway Weekend Deluxe for when I'm at home and the Gateway Starter to throw in a suitcase when I travel and can only take a few discs. Both are perfect for what I need and my budget. I'm sold on Gateway. I don't like carrying a honkin' big bag, so I don't need a big Revo or a big anything. The Weekend Deluxe is high quality at a good price, and holds just what I need.

You can find my pretty comprehensive Bag Buyers Guide, with some pictures, and comparison charts, in the files section of DG Resources- Google Group, http://groups.google.com/group/DGResources
Just make sure to view it in beta mode. I haven't updated the file recently, though.

There is just one small thing I don't like abt my Gateway Weekend Deluxe bag. The putter pocket is too tight to hold a putter when the bag is full, so I just leave it empty. It's too hard to get the putter in and out. Gateway, can you enlarge it a little?

dave: i had one of the older ones with no inside putter pocket and no reinforced plastic back.. it was a decent bag for a while, but i enjoy how my revo bag sits on my bag with quads.. IT lasted me a while until i sold it to a friend. I did hear that the newer versions were much nicer and i know when i first met the man unit boys they both had backpack bags that were nicer than mine.

The Gorilla Boy bags are sweet!!! I just got a large, camo-colored one and it was worth it! Chris can hook you up with different color combos (if he has the material in stock) and the turnaround was only about 2 weeks. The quad attachments are beefy and the bag zips straight across the top so you don't struggle pulling out discs that are at the ends of your bag. I still really like my Rev. Texas bag but the G.B. has a higher disc capacity, better quad hookups and it's also nice to have a bag that doesn't look like everyone elses.

I own a Rev. Club bag. It's a quality bag, a bit less expensive. Came in purple.
Not as many whistles and bells, but I don't need infinate room in a bag. I will take one maximum size carry on bag for a 3 week trip to Europe, so I'm a "pack light" kinda gal. |

Great one,
we made several improvements to the Back pack since you got yours not only in construction but also design, so they sit on your back better. Lowe we may imporove the weekend deluxe adding an outside putter pocket, that may help! Does anyone else have any suggestions on how we can improve on our bags? ( we are working on the retail price points, but players need to remememberGateway bgas are made here in St Louis, by a man that lost his entire business to the overseas competiton, if that counts for anything) Seems like a good poll question to me?? |

I jumped on the Revo bandwagon...and they are a quality product, indeed. Not to take anything away from Gateway, as my Tourbag lasted a l-o-n-g (5-6 years?) time considering it was made of just canvas...not these space-tech rip-proof materials used now.
The GW Backpacks look spectacular & appear super durable...and if a person were to opt for either company's bag(s) (GW or Revo), they'll be happy campers and amazed at the workmanship! IMHO, both companies have stood the test of time... |
