It's really difficult for me to believe the quality is better than the Revolution bag. Is it made in the USA ? Is the Gateway Backpack guaranteed and is it fully adjustable ? |

The Gateway bags are $110 bucks. $40 in your pocket and a high quality bag. That sounds like a better deal.

I don't think you can beat the Revolution Bags for durability and design. I'm not sure what the Gateway bags are made of, it doesn't say anywhere on their site, but the Revo bags are one tough customer. They will last a lifetime. Great design with many pockets and super strong zippers.

the main reason that I didnt get a revolution bag is because you have to order them and then you pay for shipping, gateway bag was at a store down the street and cost $25 dollars less after 10% off and if you were to order the Rev. bag after shipping you would be paying around $165 at least. Both are good bags for sure, sure wish Revolution was carried in stores. but oh well, give em another try in 3 or 4 yrs.

If you add the pro quads, its just $40 more, no extra shipping costs. The Carolina is the top of the line bag, and mine came with the new Roll Cage injection molded frame. Its super sweet, and will kick anyone's bag. Hard to beat great craftsmanship from a company that ONLY produces bags for this sport. That is what you want in a product, a company that specializes in that item, not like some one who outsources the task. |

Gateway started out in 95' producing bags only and didn't even start making discs until 98'. Many top pros were given bag sponsorships in the 90's and Gateway still has the best quality bag sonthe market IMO. My 1st Revo bag lasted a little more then a year and then I bought a tour bag that lased for three. I currntly have a 1 year old Backpack bag tht is in as good of shape as when I bought it.

My Gateway bag lasted an impressive three years, however things on the bag started to rip out after the first year. The bag as a whole held up, but by the time I retired it both zippers were ripped out and the internal frame was ripping through the top of the interior lining on both sides of the bag. I just got a closeout Revo team bag and everything feels more heavy duty than it did on my Gateway bag, but only time will tell. I love the waist strap on my Team bag and I am disappointed that Revo is no longer integrating them into their current line. The waist strap easily takes 5-10 lbs off the feel of the bag on your back, and for play on long courses and especially elevation, the strap is indispensible.

Ive had mine for 3 years. Its still in excellent condition. It has been kicked, squashed, hammer thrown, rained on, snowed on, beat with my HukSit and still is in great shape. The dividers and roll cage went south a long time ago, but I had a custom cage made by Blind Crow ( blows the crummy PVC plastic/ injection molded crap out of the window ) and its back to near new shape. If I werent using the Gateway Backpack bag, Id be using a different Gateway bag.

DS-
Although no longer available as part of the TEAM Bag line, the waist strap is now being offered on our new REVOLUTION Dual Pack. As you've found, it is a great way to take the load off your shoulders. And when you use it in combination with the chest strap that is part of the Dual Pack's backpack straps, there's the feeling of very little load on your shoulders at all. Glad to hear you are enjoying your new bag. It is certainly alway great to see unsolicited feedback from satisfied customers in a forum like this. Thanks, -Dave |

Here are some older threads about bags, but only the top one, “Disc Golf Bags Suggestions”, seems to be working. The others may have been lost.
• “Disc Golf Bags Suggestions” • “Bags: Discaddy, Revolution Pro II, Gateway" • “Disc Golf Bags (12 discs and up) Suggestions" • "Best Online Retailer for Gateway Bags" If you do a search on the word "bags" you'll also get more results.

You can also check out an older version of my "Bag Buyers Guide" at my MSN Group "Disc Golf Resources". (I have a newer version with pictures, but it is 4.2 MB, so it's too big for the MSN Group. I'm looking for an online home for it.)

If you have not tried one on, you do not know what you're missing. The weight is distributed higher on one's back...the way weight is supposed to be carried. Quad-shocks are popular because they distribute the weight evenly on the shoulders, but the Quad-shocked bags ride too low on most people. If you'll notice, Quad-shock users are usually hunched forward slightly to counter the weight bouncing off their tail end. Ever see a soldier packing weight by using Quad-shocks? I'm interested in trying one of the new Revolution bags simply because of the backpack design. It looks like the Revolution bag may have a bit more storage space, but I'm not sure that bit of extra space will outweigh the difference in price. Gateway offers a great value for their backpack bag. My first Gateway backpack lasted for over four years (I still have it and use it during rainy/muddy rounds). The new Gateway bags have improved with wider/thicker shoulder straps as well as thicker padding to the backside which is much more comfortable to wear. |

The Gateway bags are made out of 1440 x 1440 dinier. The bottoms are made out of a ballistic material that is used in lawnmower bags which is shot with some caliber of steel ball for testing.
The entire bag is backed with a pvc material. A bag is only as strong as what it is backed with. The reason the innova bags fall apart so quickly is becasue they are backed with either vinyl or felt. The zippers and hooks are all made out of metal. No plastic. The water bottle holders are large and fit a nalegene or large gatorade bottle. The backpack has more padding in the straps and there is padding along with a sitiffener in the back for better comfort. Best of all the backpack weighs in under 2lbs with the frame. The revolution bag is only 1000 x 1000 dinier. |

That comment made me laugh! I totally agree with what you are saying in terms of posture and weight distribution, but to pull the "ever see a soldier..." card was just over the top, hilarious! |

Website is a little out dated. Which you can tell by the price of the bag.

Carolina Team Bag: The Carolina Edition TEAM Bag is the most durable disc golf bag ever made. With 1650D Cordura in the main compartment, great-looking 1000D Cordura in the side and front pockets, and an ultra-tough bottom made of two layers of 12 oz truck vinyl, the Carolina TEAM Bag pulls no punches and is ready for years of heavy use. Like all REVOLUTION bags, the Carolina TEAM Bag is MADE IN USA and features bomb-proof double stitching and nylon seam taping throughout. Trust me, I know a few peeps who have some original, not as nice quality bags, and they are still kickin in great shape. Add to the fact that the center of the bag is a better material, Cordura .vs. not as durable Condura, plus the new injection molded rollcage that will reduce, if not almost elimated bag rubbing and wear on the inside and I have a bag that was very cheap over the long run. P.S. Im not knocking Gateway, its just that the people who have 2 - 5 year old Gateway bags can only put discs in. All the zippers are broken, and several strap anchor points have had to be re-sewn so that it did not fall apart. But hey, the material still looks nice. |

Talking about aesthetics, the Revolution bags are definitely the best looking in my opinion. I have had a Rev. Mini bag for a couple years and there are some small holes in the bottom where the frame would wear against the ground. Also I just noticed this weekend that the zipper for the main compartment is getting torn out a little on one side. This is after a couple years of pretty hard use. I've been quite happy with it and I will probably buy another Rev. bag when my Mini is finished. |

In the QCs about everybody has a Gateway bag, mainly backpacks, and Ive seen only one that had the problems your talking about, and it was a first production backpack bag. Im not saying these problems dont exist, but I am saying that Im VERY CRUEL to my bag, and for 3 years its been nothing but a glutton for punishment. Still in excellent shape. Glad to hear your putting has come around BoyScout.

After extensive research I bought a Gateway Weekend Deluxe, and I've been totally happy with it. It's just what I wanted.
1) I don't want to lug around a huge bag, but it has all the storage and disc space that I need. 2) It's less expensive than Revolution, so it fit my budget better. Ordered it from GottaGo GottaThrow and had great service.

Go Gateway!
But Revolution seems really good too (just pricey).

I think that there are 3 kinds of bags. Cheapos, good bags and great bags.
If you ever have to replace a bag, it wasn't great. Just find a quality bag that holds as much as you need. I think one of the problems is that people don't get a bag that is big enough. They end up packing it full and that is what causes them to strain at the seams. If you are going to carry 20+ discs, a couple water bottles, towels, mini, snacks, and in my case about a pound of loose change, you are going to destroy any bag except the high end ones. Personally, I have a Rev. club bag. At $65 it was a good value. Looks like the day I bought it. It replaced my Wall City mega-cube only because I was buying myself a treat. The Wall City bag is still in great shape after many years of use. |

As I said, most people attach the quads to the bag like this: Instead the straps should be attach to the loops shown here in blue, and the opposing loops in the back (not shown)

I'm in the market for a new bag too, as my old Gateway Player bag is falling apart. I'm guessing their standard has gone up? Mine has plastic zips (which broke) and all the corners are worn through.
As I've been quite disappointed by the Gateway, I quite fancy the Revolution Team, but does it really only hold 12-14 discs?!? I carry 15 comfortably at the moment. 14 seems small for their largest bag! Seems like I have 2 choices, trust that the Revolution is big enough, or trust that Gateway have improved... Given that I have to pay shipping to the UK, I don't want to get it wrong! |

I can tell you that you can fit 14 discs in the main compartment with 2 putters in the putter pocket and if you want you could get 3 in each side pocket. I have had my Carolina bag for just over a year and it is in perfect shape. I would recommend the Revolution to anyone.

Bruce, in my Revolution Team I carry 8 drivers and 6 mids quite comfortably with a putter in the front pocket and a putter in the side sleeve pocket. Could actually carry another driver or another mid in the bag itself but it would be tight. Plus you could easily carry another disc or two in one of the zipper end pockets if you absolutely, positively couldn't winnow it down.

No winnowing here, I'm very happy with the contents of my bag right now. I kind of need the end pockets, what with the wonderful British weather, they contain my waterproofs, my sunscreen, and my waterproof sunscreen ![]() Sounds like it might be just the right size actually, having the putter pocket will make the difference... |
