glad I didnt get the only 7 on 15 that day. Soooo much wind. I threw a firebird with hyzer and it flipped over the hill into the woods. My next shot landed on my feet, and the next 2 inches from my bag.

Well if I recall correctly, the wind was howling that day. I wonder what the wind is going to be like this saturday on that hole. Probably extremely strong as it flies over the frozeen lake and creates blisters on my exposed face . Can't wait.

My thoughts exactly Chris. I even had to sink a 25 footer to save my 7.

I can honestly say that this particular monthly was the most miserable and exhausting round of disc golf I've ever experienced in my life. The course had over 12" of snow on the ground covered by a 1/4" layer of ice. The round, which started in 16 degree temperature, lasted over 3 1/2 hours. For the record, you will never see me do that again. I'm surprised I can walk this morning...

Good shooting Libby, Deitzel and Sid.

Blue tees in 12+ inches of snow? You guys should have known better to play white tees. In those conditions, that's like a Bataan Death March.

If we'd known better, we would've stayed home! That's what the regulars did this morning at Knob Hill. For the first time in Sunday Devotional history, nobody showed up to play the weekly league...including the TD.

Jerry,

My baby was getting baptized on Sunday Morning. I let everyone know that after the Moraine monthly.

Except me!

I did what I usually do on cold, snowy mornings...I drove out to Knob to laugh at whoever showed up for the Devotional. Actually, yesterday I went out to warn them (i.e. "Don't do it, man!"). Not one person in the parking lot, however. Not even a sledder.

Not knowing about your kids baptism, I thougt you probably felt like I did...half dead! By the way, does anyone know if KB survived?

You must be thinking of the old color coded tees, Jeff. When the course originally opened in 2005, we only had two sets of tees; white and blue. Last summer, J Gary added a third set of tees and then reassigned the tee colors to match the appropriate player rating level:

White = 900 rating
Blue = 950 rating
Gold = 1000 rating

Once spring gets here (if it ever does ), we'll begin hosting a random doubles format in the afternoon (gold tees).

D'OH! You're right, I was assuming you guys were playing the longest set of tees out there, which in 12+ inches of snow would be brutal.

Thanks to everyone who made it out for the Moraine Monthly this past Saturday! A total of twenty players attended the morning singles round and due to the new payout structure (80% payout/ 20% course fund), we raised $40 toward the concrete tee pad fund. Twelve folks stuck around and competed in the afternoon random doubles round where we played from the 1000-rated gold tees. Please note there were four scorecards added incorrectly....and one them was mine! Deitzel, you erroneously added my front nine as a 29, but it was ultimately my mistake for not verifying your addition. The other guilty parties were Red, Alex and the doubles pairing of Matt & Chris. I didn't check the scorecards until I began entering the scores into my database. I guess the TD will need to verify scores from now on....

The next Moraine Monthly is scheduled for Saturday June 9, followed by the Knob Hill Course Championship on Sunday, June 10. The Knob Hill Championship will be a fund-raising tournament similar to the Lakeview Course Championship, only the Knob Hill tournament will benefit the Scholl's Bicycle Centers Pittsburgh Flying Disc Open. More details to come....

Thats hilarious!!! So the best open Player tied the best doubles score. Maybe we need to specify pin positions for these course records. I see the pins are 17 in "A" position and 1 in "C" position, since it would be very hard to achieve this record if the pins would all be in the "C" position. But besides that it looked like a great turn out.

For starters, the "best open player" posted a score of 56 from the 950-rated blue tees. The doubles record score of 56 was played from the 1000-rated gold tees. And if you had paid a bit more attention to detail, you would have noticed the pin placements are specified above with 16 holes in A-pin, 1 hole in B-pin and 1 hole in C-pin. I hope your accounting skills are better than your observational skills.

It should be noted that the previous random doubles record was held by Chris Deitzel and myself....with a majority of the pins in the A-pin positions. There's no question the course plays easier (approximately 4 strokes easier, imo) when select holes are in A-pin. Like most other courses, record scores are often set when baskets are in the easier pin placements. The same goes for ball golf.

For sanctioned tournament play we always offer a more challenging mix of pin variety and that's what makes Orum's blue tee score of 52 and Shack's gold tee score of 57 that much more amazing. Nonetheless, the recent gold-tee doubles record stands, as do the other Lakeview course records which can be viewed here. I think it's cool that we actually keep track of that information as many other disc golf clubs do not.

I'd like to send a "thank you" out to Tom Baumgardner for removing the flagged trees on hole 18, cutting the tree stumps along the fairway and sectioning the large fallen limbs on hole 1's green. The improvements look great, Tom!

Nobody carded an eagle during the September monthly, so the October eagle pot will start out at $55!

Management officials at Moraine State Park have asked us to provide a disc golf clinic during the afternoon of October 20. We will host the regularly scheduled singles round at 10:00 am, however, we will either delay or cancel the afternoon doubles to host the "Learn to play disc golf" clinic at 2:00 pm. PFDS volunteers will be needed for this clinic, so please mark your calendars accordingly and thank you in advance for your consideration to participate in this event.
