Yeah. Abernathy, only a few miles north of Lubbock on I-27, has plans to install a nine hole disc golf course in Community Park. The park is relatively new and lies on the west side of town. The park is relatively open with exception of some trees on the east and north sides. There is a lake in the middle of the park. There is some minor elevation changes, more so on the SE side of the park. Note that this will be a course that will not go in immediately as funding, etc. still needs to be secured, etc. But, congrats to Abernathy for recognizing the benefits of disc golf for their community!

Update misc....The turn into Abernathy from Loop 289 in Lubbock is right at 15 miles. The park is then east about four blocks. I met with the city manager. He's excited about getting a quality course installed. We walked the park to see boundaries, flood prone areas, high use areas, lighting, and other detail/options. One opportunity is that there are many more trees just off of the property line into ISD land. IF the course would be allowed to utilize a little of this area, the course would be greatly enhanced. We'll be checking into usage. More later.

Went back again to the area and walked aimlessly in all directions. Yep, the ISD land would really, really help the course out greatly. Hope, hope, hope. A couple of preliminary rough designs are on paper, but mostly rely on the ISD land for a hole.5. and greatly relies on the area for course flow and staying away from a nearly marsh area. More later.

No big news, just planning for a next spring-ish installation (hope).

Had opportunity to very quickly walk the park just before dark a few days ago. Trying to figure out a good way to use the park without the ISD portion. Nothing really looks good at all as the ISD area has trees and elevation. Don't think that there is a big hurry on this one....later, more.

Have stayed in touch with city (great guy). We'll see if we can work with the ISD to make this course drastically more fun to play. Keep hoping.

I've not had contact in a while, but I'm fairly sure things will be a go. I'm just not sure of the timeline. But, I've got a layout planned and have tested slightly. Yes, I'd like to run some portables, but just not sure when on this one at all.

Yes, they're still in the game and interested in DG. Right now there is some school construction going on in the area that is adjacent to the park that could significantly have impact on the quality of the course. More waiting. More later.
