John Kuhns (Ohio) has come up with a good one:
"that was 50 feet F.A.T." or "that was negative 20 feet FAT" FAT = Feet After Touch (tree, ground, fence, etc.) it's sort of like YAC in football (yards after catch)

My new favorite:
During a round, I tried to take the 5 meters of relief from a casual obstacle and my friend objected. When I tried to show him the rule in the 2006 rulebook he gave me one for the ages: "I don't need to see the rulebook, I've read the comments on the PDGA message board." I guess from now on I'll have to have to carry a laptop instead of rule book and hope for wireless access.

Quote from KB Clark regarding an errant shot off the fairway on hole 2 at Knob Hill:
"That's headed for D-pin..." We were confused hearing this because the course only has A, B & C pins...then KB finished his sentence: "Deep-in the woods".

Traveling around the country I have noticed Disc Golfers use different slang words from different states and countries describing the same situations that arise while playing Disc Golf.
IE: in the West, Disc Golfers use the word MANDI for madatory route and in the East they use a similar lingo or slang word, MANDO. I have been NEW YORKED and NICED on many occasions and before I start a round with men and women I have never played with before I like to remind them to THINK TWICE BEFORE THEY SAY NICE. I am sure there are a thousand different words, sayings and nicknames that encompass this incredible subculture of Disc Golf. Lets hear some Disc Golf lingo/slang from Disc Golfers all over the world and the definitions & how they originated. |

Started by Northwest Arkansas Disc Golf Association (Team Donkey)
Been played by many touring pros and at the USDGC informally - spread around by such notable Arkies as Kelly Watson, Jeff Ash, Aleskey Bubis played inside a normal round of disc golf D.O.N.K.E.Y.: played kinda like H.O.R.S.E. in Basketball it is spelled out one letter at a time: each time someone hits the top of the basket, once it is spelled each top of basket hit cost the person who did it 25 cents to everyone on the card (originated by the sound of DONK, particularly on Discatchers & number plates) B.A.I.L.E.Y. - played the same way but instead of hitting the top its by hitting the tray/bucket (called a Bailey) - affectionately named after Darrell Bailey who is a charter member of Team Donkey any time chains are hit or the disc goes in it cancels the Donkey or Bailey |

I refer to DGCs as Links. Each hole is considered a link. I am trying to bring back this 1800's term for a ball golf course.
From a short thread on slang on DisCap.com: Dubs or Dubz = Doubles. We play "best shot" format which is when you and a parner both drive and choose which lie is best and throw from there. Same scenario for all succesive shots. California or "Cali" = When we come up with an odd number of players for doubles, a person volunteers(or is chosen) to play ONE extra throw per hole. I prefer to think it's Cali, the Hindu Goddess of Destruction. Here's a local New England term that you're sure to hear when you come up short on a putt................ Meow ! Terms: http://www.disclife.com/terms.shtml http://www.discfly.com/Category~CategoryID~659.html and of course... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disc_golf

We don't call it Cali here, we call it Odd Man.
How about... Princess Lay-up Phantom Limb Syndrome (when you hit a branch you don't see) Poll Dancer Last chain out of town (putt that barely stays in by hitting rear chain)

Taking a really risky shot-"Cashing in the 401k"
Leaving a drive or upshot really short-"Left some chicken on the bone" This was stated by a dubs player who was really drunk after he missed a short putt- "I should have aimed at the one in the middle" |

When your shot hits tree branches, someone might say, "Got a message from the branch office." And of course the message is, "Treenied!"
