Default 2009 \"Steady\" Ed Masters Cup presented by DGA

Greetings, disc golfers! Registration for the Am Masters Cup and the National Tour version for Pro divisions is now open. Go to http://delaveagadiscgolf.com/24th-an...sters-cup.html to access the signup form and instructions. You can send us a check or pay via Paypal, and I suggest amateurs that plan on playing this year get your registrations in early as the players packages include shirts. The earlier you register, the better your chance of getting the shirt size you want.

We'll have several people monitoring this thread, so feel free to post any questions you have. I'll be posting useful details frequently, so check back often. Thanks,

Jack Trageser

Default 2009 \"Steady\" Ed Masters Cup presented by DGA

The Delaveaga Disc Golf Club is proud to announce the Ramada Limited ( 516 Water St, Santa Cruz CA 95060 / 831-426-6111 ) as our official host hotel of the 2009 Masters Cup. As many of you know from traveling here in years past, the hotel situation in Santa Cruz can be a tricky one. Our tournament takes place during the start of peak tourist season so good hotel rates can be hard to find. Our friends at the Ramada Limited have offered us a great discount for both tournament weekends. The normal price on a two queen bed room is $160.00. The Disc Golfer rate of will be $109.00 will be available both weekends by asking for the "Disc Golfer" rate. There is also a discounted rate for single beds. Please support our tournament sponsors by staying at this great hotel. It's literally the closest hotel to the course ( and not far from the beach) , the rooms are very clean and modern, and there's tons of restaurants close by. We will be posting tournament scores and tee tee times in the hotel lobby and there's also a free continental breakfast each morning. Please call today to reserve your room and be on your best behavior as we want to show this hotel what great guest disc golfers can be and ensure that we can use them for a host hotel for years to come. See you all in May, bring your beach clothes and your 'A' game"

More post about sponsors, after parties and MC fundraiser discs to follow next week

Why is Advanced $10 more than the rest of the divisions if we are only getting players packages.

Hi Sean,

Here's the word from our TD:

"Entry fees are determined by guidelines set forth by the PDGA for Super Tour events.

The MA1 winner will receive a basket as in previous years along with free entry into the PRO event.

Trophies will also be awarded beyond the top three spots in most divisions. MA1 trophies will run deeper than other divisions since there are generally more MA1 players competing."

So there you have it. And remember that the first-place basket is a real basket (like $400+), I think a Mach III with number plate, not some dinky portable basket. Also, I believe the trophies are the really cool glass baskets like last year, each one hand made and unique.

I'll be volunteering that weekend so I'll see you there!
Cheers,
Steve

2009 Masters Cup Fundraiser Disc

The Delaveaga Disc Golf Club presents the release of our
2009 Fundraiser disc. Each year the club commissions a different disc golf artist to produce a full color design on a rare limited edition disc.

This design serves as the "unofficial" tournament stamp for the Steady Ed Memorial Masters Cup. Even though there will be an official tournament stamped disc in every players package, the short run of the fundraiser disc often makes it a more valuable collectible.

For 2009 the club chose Rick Weaver of Famersville California, who is becoming nationally known for his fine disc golf related artwork in various forms and mediums. Rick's full color depiction of an unnamed Disc Golfer putting at hole 1 at Delaveaga captures the challenge and beauty of the course.

Rick's artwork is displayed on a Proline Rogue without the normal DGA branding name ring on the disc. This allows the artwork to cover a much larger surface area of the disc. DGA has only produced a few orders on these "blank" Rogues and the white Proline plastic really helps the full color design "pop" off of the disc.

Only 50 of these discs have been produced so the collectable value will be high. To make it affordable to everybody in these tough economic times, the club will be selling them for only $20.00 each.

These discs are available through Dela Discs and can be purchased directly from the van anytime it is up at the course.

You can also purchase these discs by calling or emailing derek@discgolfassoc.com (831-722-6037) or stan.pratt@gmail.com. You can pay to have it shipped or we can reserve one for you and you can pick it up at the Steady Ed Memorial Masters Cup.

Last years fundraiser discs sold out before the tournament started and many people showed up looking to get one after they were already gone. To ensure you get one of these 'one of a kind' fundraiser discs - email or call us today or pick one up from Dela Disc Mark at the Delaveaga Disc Golf Course.

Default Layout

Hi Kenny,

I am not sure if the layout for the Pro weekend is set. Some of it will depend on how flow/clogs occur during the AM weekend. Almost everything will be in the long.

Changes: holes 20 and 22 (when in play) have OB now. Likely the road and beyond when headed out on 20 and past the road is safe on 22 (this is designed to reduce crossing fairways...).

New tee in a slightly different place for hole 23.

New tee (very deep) for hole 26A.

Hole 27 (Top of the World) has a new pin placement, but very close to old one.

Cheers,
Steve

Default Am Masters Cup a 'wet' success- See the Pictures Here

The Amateur version of the 2009 Steady Ed Memorial Masters Cup is in the books, with local Zeb Goodman taking first place in Advanced. He shot three steady rounds of +1, par (84), and par to win by three strokes. The real story, though, was the way the entire field responded to a couple unforeseen hiccups.

First of all, no one predicted the amount of rain that fell on all three days. Players got soaked, rounds took six hours in some cases, and despite all that I saw mostly smiles. We also had an issue with the tee times being posted incorrectly on the PDGA site Friday night, and somehow managed to get everyone on the course Saturday. Players were extremely flexible, and really embodied the principles Ed Headrick always espoused.

If you'd like to see and/or order prints of pictures taken during the three rounds, click the link below:

The rain had nothing to do with the 7 hour round Sunday. I had to DNF in the middle of the round cause I had to work Sunday night. If I would have played the whole round I wouldnt have made it.

Easy there Sean....
Why would YOU, who would figure to be in the running in Adv, schedule work on the night of a SuperTour 2+ hrs away? Knowing FULL well that the Adv would go off last on Sunday AND you "should" be contending there for one of the LAST groups.

Poor planning on your part....NO fault of the event itself, regardless of weather issues, etc.

I didnt start work until 10:30. I would have had plenty of time to get home if we were done in a timely manner. The flyer said awards were at 5:30.The first groups were done in 4 1/2 hours why would our round take 3 hours longer. In all the years I have played Master's Cup rounds never took that long.

I was also told the Adv Master Woman were a group of 5 and that was alot of the problem. But this info could be wrong.

Maybe for you last time I checked if you tee off at 11:30 and finished at 6:30 that was 7 hours.
My second round took just over 6 hours.

Default Meet the Pros

Hall of Famer Tom Schott held the "Meet the Pros" skins game yesterday, with $50 per hole. Des Reading walked away with $950, Liz Lopez $200, and Val Jenkins with $200, capturing the last chunk of the pot with a park job on the new hole 27. Local Pro Carrie Berl Berlogar couldn't quite get things going, but expect her to be in the mix during the tournament!

Each year Tom and others put up over $1000 for a skins match among four premier Pro players attending the Masters Cup tournament, and this year it was a treat to watch the women battle.

Thanks Tom!
