I was wondering what discraft throwers use as their stable fairway driver. I currently have tourney pro cyclones in the bag, but the break in so straight and start getting understable quickly. I like that because they are so easy to hyzer flip. I also have Z XLs in the bag, and I like them because they can work just about any line, but don't handle the wind to great and aren't HSS enough for me on some shots.
I'm looking for a disc in the Discraft lineup that is similar to the teebird I guess, not something as overstable as a new stiff star or champ teebird, just a nicely broken in fairway driver that I can trust in the wind (doesn't have to be uber-wind resistant) and isn't as understable as my Z XLs. So far, I've tried ESP and Z Trackers, but they start out so overstable for me. I haven't broken them in yet because basically they act like shorter avengers or preds. I like the Z and ESP Avengers as well, but the sharp lip at the bottom kills my hands in the cold, and they just seem like semi straighter preds too. Also, the Z and ESP Avengers are faster, and I'd rather not have to get them up to so much crusing speed for 300 ft shots. I'm really looking for something that I can throw about as hard as I do my Z XLs, but with just a little more "fight" in them. I admit, my overstable game isn't that great, so maybe my inexpierence with those type of discs are making my search for a good stable fairway driver that much harder. I've also tried the Z Cyclone, and I love those, but they are basically seem like Z Wasps, just a little longer, but nothing really like the tourney pro Cyclones. So, any suggestions? So I break in some Trackers? Just work with my Z XLs? Step up to the ESP and Z Avengers again? |

Since I switched to Circle D I have been using the Z flash and love it! If it is to stable for you use a lighter wieght maybe a 167-170 maybe lighter depending on your taste! This disc has also taken the place of my Wraith that i used to throw a ton!

Well I was going to mention a Z Tracker but you shot that down. But what's wrong with going with a Champion TeeBird??

I was where you are at for a long time...My best recommendations are a Tsunami (or beat in an X Pred), or one of the red Z Trackers that say DISCRAFT across the front. These were the straight run of Trackers, and I agree that most of the rest are ridiculously overstable, especially when the description reads "longer Buzz".

I was going to recommend XL's and/or Trackers but it looks like you're in the process of trying them. Other discs that go further than The Buzzz, or The Wasp but aren't quite super long range drivers include; The Meteor, The Glide, The Nebula, Avengers, & Surges. Meteors and Glides are super long range mids, but can be considered understable if thrown incorrectly (lack of spin, too much force). The Nebula is nice but you'll probably find it to be just a tad longer than a Wasp. Seasoned Trackers, Surges, and/or Avengers might be your answer.

What about maybe an XS, don't think they are that great in the wind, but might work. Or even a WildCat?
Might try an X-Avenger, they are not as overstable as the Z or ESPs. |

I find that the Storm fits my taste for a fairway driver nicely. I'm still having trouble finding heavy Z storms, but as far as I can tell, they go farther than a buzzz (if both were thrown on a low line) and are fairly resistant to turn. Does anyone have some Storm for me?
Also, is the Storm considered too old-school to get an ESP make over? I would love to see that available for wide realese. |

The Z Cyclones don't break in. I think the Z Cyclone is much overlooked for a stable mid-range kind of driver.

i use the first run esp crush, because i prefer a wide rimmed disc. the first run esp's were way less stable than any other crushes that i have found, but again, this is getting to be a hard disc to find.

Z storms were very nice, but with them being discontinued I can't recommend them. If you are looking for a nice fairway driver I would look at surge's. Once they get a little worn they will go very straight. Or you can get an SS that is out of the box worn in. I prefer the z's, but the flx's can be very nice also.

yeah, I guess I should've clarified what I meant a little by fairway driver.... Basically not a wide rimmed or high speed driver like the Surge (which I use for my max d driver) or a crush or flash. I'm looking for a smaller rimmed driver that doesn't require throwing it as hard as those fast drivers to get a good predictable flight with.
Basically, what I had in mind was actaully those Players Cup Trackers that are straigther than the new Z and ESP trackers. Those new production run Trackers can be piggish for those of us that don't have huge D. I actually have an X Avenger in my bag too, for my max d annies/turnovers. They are nice at first, but break into a hyzer-flippin/anny disc for me. X Preds are nice too, but discontinued. Z Cyclones are nice, but a little short. My Z XLs can produce the shot I want, but I have to really preserve an exagerated hyzer line and they often still track too far right during the first part of it's flight (while still preserving the hyzer angle/line). I guess I'm being a little too picky, and should just be a little more wise and make my discs do what I want them to instead of adding a mold for each shot. But that's idea that led me to this problem: I'm probably gonna drop my XLs in favor of my Cyclones, since they really cover the same shots that I'm using them for and I've been throwing my tourney pro cyclones a lot more when I used to just throw my XLs. But there are some shots when neither of these discs has the stability I want. Just need something a little more stable but not stepping up to pred or avenger stable. So... I guess I'm gonna work on my ESP Trackers a little more and see if they beat in a little straighter. I figure with them being a little slower than those max D drivers, I'll be able to focus more on line shaping than having to but so much power into them, and I won't have to worry about wide-rims slipping out of my hand... for those who have thrown the Z and ESP Trackers, how do they break in? Do they become eventually like the Player's cup Trackers? Do they ever really fit Discraft's description of "a longer Buzzz?". I'm skeptical, because I think the straighter Buzzz description is more applicable to the X Tracker than the Zs or ESPs. |

Tsunami(Pred mold) and Predators might be too overstable. You can stay in the "cat" family and try a Z-Wildcat....small rim, fast, & stable when new(pretty durable in the Z plastic).

yeah, I just found out about the D-Tsunamis today from a thread over on discgolfreview.com...
I might just try them out. I like the old "z"-like tsunamis, so maybe i'll give these a shot. I'm sure they'll break in nicely too... |

Throwing a 350' hyzer shot is not at all difficult with this disc. It has a lot of glide. Even in the light weight it does ok in the wind. It's starting to get a little beat now. But, even once the stability is more like my teebirds I will keep this disc in my bag. It's a different flavor. More of a hook at the end maybe. I LOVE this disc. If I only threw discraft this would be my teebird replacement. |

My Z Wildcats are less stable Z Avengers, same distance. I live by my Z-XS. Straight as an arrow for 300'. It also works great for long floaty anhyzers and hyzers. However all my favorites are in the old Z plastic (the ones that have the micro-font labels). I have picked up some new ones that were way too overstable. Make sure it has a dome to it. I've just always liked these more than XL's, they're faster as well.

so this is the time of the year that it seems like manufactors like to release their big splash discs, with the first major of the tour, the memorial coming up in a few weeks. This was about the time last year that Discraft released the Force, and Innova came out the XCal.
I've heard some rumblings that Discraft may be set to release some new ones, and was wondering when you team members might be able to release some specifics? daddy wants some new toys

You want one of these. Only 100 made. I have three that I'm looking at right now.. Flat and sweet and from what I hear Discraft ran these from a sample they got so they cannot make anymore. Available now, but not for long..

I wish the weather was nicer I would be able to tell you right now. It looks and feels like a regular Buzzz. The heaviest I could find in the stack was 175, not sure if they were able to get them heavier than that and I noticed a good number of lower weights. That is all I can say right now.
Another really cool disc I just saw -and also an AM Nats fundraiser- is the new "Chameleon" Z Buzzz SS. The plastic changes color depending on the angle in which it is viewed. Dude sweet nize. |

Looks like they took all the max weights to sell online which is probly why you couldnt find any in the stack!!! I may just have to shell out some money for a Glow Z BUZZZ and some Chameleon BUZZZ SSs!!!

No mention of the Z Talon as a Teebird comparison? Discontinued, but the rim is as close as it gets.
