http://www.pdga.com/documents/tech_s...nd_targets.pdf Sorry I didn't link to it in the earlier post, but I was in a hurry. I have 5 or 6 cryztal challengers and only one of them is between 174.0 and 174.3 grams. All the rest are 172-174, just like the stamp on them claims. nanook |

So what's the difference between the APX and the Manget and challenger. I've used both challengers and magnets, and will probably never use the Banger GT because I don't like the Groove Top feel, but I've never thrown or known anyone who has thrown the APX. Any fans?

The man who owns this thread could be one of their biggest fans but they don't make the swirls anymore so you might as well stick with the Challengers/Mags.

I know a lot of big fans of the APX. It is probably the straightest flying putter out there. I never liked it because it has a high profile like a domey Aviar, but the way it flies through the air makes me wish it felt good in my hand. You have to beat the soul out of a Challenger to get it to hold lines like the APX.
The Magnet is like an overstable version of the APX. It has a high profile as well. It has really good carry and glide and it gets good lift for a putter. I putted with soft magnets with quite a bit of success, but I now putt with the Challenger because I did not like the high profile and I could not get a clean release when I had to throw it more than a putt. The Challenger is flat, wind resistant, and too overstable to putt with outside of 30' when new. It drives like a dream--good speed, holds lines perfectly, and doesn't get too "floaty". |

Aren't all Challengers beadless? That is why I moved to Magnets because I have been using Big beaded putters for years.

I have not bought a new Challenger in years but the stack of Cam Todd's I have and the UV 2003 Am World Soft Challengers I use all have beads like a BB Aviar.

You misunderstood me Conners. I went to the Magnet because it feels more like a big beaded putter than the Challenger because of the wing design and the fact it has a BIG bead.

this is why I carry a Warlock AND a Wizard.
Chalky Black Warlcock - No bead flat flyer for everyday putting Medium Wizard - stable beaded monster for those not so straight/windy putts and approaches. PERFECT COMBO I do know one thing though, those new soft challengers are some of the nicest feeling plastic I've ever seen in a putter. If I wasnt so hooked on the Gateway dynamic duo it would be the putter I throw. |

I'll let you know in a day or two when I throw the ones I got. I have yellow, green, and blue. One thing I do know is that they are less stable than their Z counterparts.

I love the Z but the one thing that bugged me about the ESP os that they turned a bit at high speed while the Z will just hold straight. Anyway I will see for sure tomorrow.

I never have had much luck with Avengers. Just like the Tracker, I have tried them again and again. I just find them to be slower and have less glide than the Predator. I'm still hooked on old Tsunamis, but they don't make that plastic anymore so I may have to learn the Avenger down the road.

I've been throwing Buzzzes for years. While they do break in nicely, they don't break in much (at least not in the plastics I prefer). The last time I lost my flippy one I ended up taking a new ESP Buzzz and bending the bejeezus out of it trying to get it flippy. This worked for the round, but after 2-3 days the stability had come back.
Last night I took a Meteor out that I had lying around and it flew much like a beat up Buzzz. It may have even glided a little better. I was surprised to say the least and I'm considering giving it a spot in my bag at least until I get a Buzzz legitimately seasoned. Any opinions on the Meteor? |

Have not thrown the Meteor but the ESP Comet is money.
