Played the new Elon Park course this past weekend. There's a lot of heavily wooded holes and many ace opps. So far, for a brand new course, it's pretty great. If our new course is anything like this one it will be a great addition to Wilmington. It's probably a par 54.
Also, I heard there was recently a land purchase that will bring another par 70ish course to Charlotte in the near future. |

Just a heads up excerpt from an email I got from Chuck (aka, homegrown tour) about a problem at Buckhorn. I haven't played it yet but I know some of you guys frequent it:
------ On another note, Jamie "River Dawg" Arnolds, owner of Ramcat Ridge in Yadkinville, was playing some golf at Buckhorn yesterday and someone broke into his car and stole a bunch of discs. Here is what he had to say: BTW my Suburban was broken into at Buckhorn and two boxes of discs, probably 40+ drivers were taken. Most of them had my name on them and a lot of them were my dye jobs. Keep your eyes skinned. Only truck in parking lot all day was a silver toyota cab and a half and only one set of tracks on the course. Could have been worse. That's all he took. My back passenger glass was down about a 1/2 inch and he just popped the glass off it's track and reached in and unlocked the door. Wretched scumbag thief!!! ---- Chi |

For those that haven't seen my original post, I'm slightly updating the club's scorecard.
-- Thanks to Dave, I had the alternate back 9 added up wrong. I'll have the card back up later today. I'm an athlete, not a mathlete

for anyone that did not see it, it looks awesome. Monty you won't believe it but we now have room to actually right someones name as opposed to just their initials.

at the request of Mr Bob Fitzsimons (the older gentlemen that initiated contact with us at the parks board meeting we attended last month) i attended the City of Kure Beach's Town council meeting last night. He was asked to give a quick presentation on Disc Golf by the Mayor and the rest of the council. Mr. Firzsimons gave the presentation and i was there to field questions. after a short discussion between bob myself and the mayor and comisssioner the Board voted unanimously to continue with the project. Now we will define the parameters of the area we want to use for the course. Mr. Russle Schwarz has already been in contact with Bob and i am fairly certain he will be the one that comes down and designs the course.
It was great to see the Mayor and the boards excitment about the course. It is my opinion that this thing will be in the ground by christmas if not much much sooner. These guys are on it!! |

This was just printed and emailed out through SNOWS CUT MAGAZINE...the Pleasure Island Mag.
"Kure Beach wants disc golf The Kure Beach Town Council voted to proceed with a disc golf course at Joe Eakes Park. You may be wondering how they'll fit it on such a small park. Good question. The town leases 24 acres from the US Army, but the current park uses only about 6 acres. That leaves 18 acres of woodland that's perfect for disc golf. They plan an 18 hole tournament-worthy course. One of many cool things about disc golf is that it's inexpensive - about $10,000 and a few weeks of work can is all it takes. I'm biased, but I this is a great day for Pleasure Island. Disc golf is a great, free activity that many people enjoy. Disc golf was all set to come to Arrowhead Park in Monkey Junction, but then the dumb ol' economy got in the way. The County Commissioners don't want to borrow any more money to do park improvements until things improve so they're holding off on that one." Just figured i would post the latest. |

Just wanted to let everyone know about the July Monthly at Luther Britt Park in Lumberton. I am not sure if this is the correct thread to put it in, but I took a shot.
I would like to take a moment to do some "selfless" promotion. On July 25th, the LDGA will be holding our July monthly with a nice twist. We will have a CTP contest on all 18 holes that will last for both rounds. Various prizes, gift certificates, and everyone's favorite, Cash have been donated specifically for this event. As always, we will have the "Green CTP", which is an optional Community CTP as part of our monthly. I know that the New Bern PDGA is this same weekend, but if you aren't playing there, consider making the drive. We have another event that is upcoming. On August 29th, we will be hosting the 3rd Annual Ace Race sponsored by Discraft. We hold a very competitive event that rewards consistent accuracy. Each hole is shortened considerably and there are plenty of "Ace runs" for all. Each player will be throwing a prototype disc mold that is provided as part of the player's package. With the addition of more sponsorships, we will be able to pay out to the top three finishes. There is plenty of information about these events on our website. I would strongly encourage you to check it and the LDGA forum. Last edited by Mystery; Jul 07 2009 at 12:19 AM. |

Unfortunately, due to economic woes, IKA Germany will not be sending kids over this year for the annual summercamp. For those of you who were planning on helping out at the clinic I thank you, and hopefully next year they will be able to come back.

Just got finished watching the Azalea DVD. Really good DVD especially for $10. I actually kind of liked the raw feel w/o the commentary. I would have been cool if you could have heard the banter between holes a little better. I also would have liked to seen some of the advanced footage, but I'm biased, haha. I know Boz was a one man crew though and I think he did a great job. Nice to have someone in the area with DG filming experience.
