By any chance, did anyone find a white goblin on hole 5? At the time, I was more upset about the double par 6 I scored on the hole.

thanks

I think a good doubles team could easily shoot a 48 or so from the reds.

I've seen a 55 from the whites. That makes me pretty certain that a good doubles group could easily shoot 50 or below as mentioned from the reds. not taking anything away from 14 down!

yeah my -14 was singles I think a Timmy/Gotcher combo would shoot about a 47.

And oh yeah Deer Lakes is looking better. Got quite a few opinions on Deer Lakes this weekend at the River Bear from people who came to the Hunt. Was kinda interesting to hear what they had to say.

the 55 whites was Tom Moeller single. and I agree a good duo like Gotchermoney and Timmy or a few others would tear the DLDGC up from the reds. Maybe for doubles on the 27th Monthy?!?

And dont leave us hanging, what did they say Dietz? As part of the DLDGC pride crew I'd like to hear any/all comments, good and bad.

It was mixed reviews. People thought it was hard and challenging. People liked a lot of the holes, but as an overall course the concensus was that there are a few holes keeping it from being a great course. Leroy said, "it was nice, but it's no Moraine".

I think Deer Lakes is almost every bit as good as Moraine. And if you heard the feedback from touring golfers after the last two PFDOs, they basically said the same thing: there are a few holes at Moraine that keep it from being a great course. They specifically do not like holes #4, #12, and #16 at Moraine. Interestingly, these are actually some of my favorite holes on the course.

Personally, I think the only weak hole at Deer Lakes is #8. I think every other single hole is like a different chapter in a book, and almost every one of them plays like no other holes I've encountered at other courses. I think that is really something when you have practically 17 unique holes at a course which don't play similar to each other or similar to holes at the 175+ other courses I've played over the last 12 years.

I hear ya Jeff. Kinda funny cause I know a lot of people who love 4, 12 and 16. Its all personal opinion of course. And I love them too. My only complaints about Deer Lakes are hole 4, 12, 13, and 14.

I think all 3 courses we have are top notch!!!

But to really evaluate a course, I think a person needs to play that course at least 10 or so times to really get a feel for it.

All I got to say is Pittsburgh has got it going on!!! And Pymatuning rocks ALSO!!!

"almost every bit as good"

lol

ANd the funny thing about some of the complaints from the golfers, is that once person in particular told me how much they liked a certain hole last year at Moraine, and then when they played this year, they said they didn't like it at all.

It's all opinion. But I know that I love being able to play all of these great courses, and Moraine and Deer Lakes have the added bonus that they are not crowded yet!! It's just you and the woods most of the time. And the occasional bear sighting at Moraine!!!

From the white or red tee, hole#4 at Deer Lakes is quite routine. But it's definitely a good hole from the blue tee. I have seen 4s and 5s taken when early foilage was encountered off the tee.

Hole#12 is better when the polehole is in the A or B positions and close to the right-side drop-off. I have personally thrown shots over the edge and bogeyed it from down there.

Bite your tongue about hole#13 and #14! These are two of the most spectacular holes on the course! Have you seen the improvements on these holes lately? I'm willing to bet you haven't. Hole#13 has a new white teepad that was built from the remnants of the washed out bridge, (it's awesome) and the new B pin position makes it a true pro par 4. Hole#14 is now Brittney-bald! The amount of trimming and manicuring work performed recently is astonishing. From the teepad, you can easily see the almost-bare hillside below the basket. There are now two distinct open and fair routes to choose from on the approach, and the new B pin at the top of the hill plays challenging. From the white tee on Friday, I missed a 30-footer for a birdie 4 that I would have been ecstatic over.

for being in the ground for only a year I think the DLDGC would take Moraine in a back alley brawl. Moraine is just tough scoring wise, IMO it doesnt lay a finger to the elevation, fairness in layout, great maintenance, and general overwhelming beauty, amongst other things, of the DLDGC. Moraine has its highlights and is a great course, DONT GET ME WRONG, but I'm taking DLDGC through oddsmakers.com in a shocking upset.

getting to what Jeff said as his one not so hot hole, my thing with #8 is this. As I've discussed with a few others, it has ability to become a score deviator. With the pin in "A", as it was for The Hunt, it is a must 2. Holes like this help separate fields and are as good, sometimes maybe even better, than tough scoring par 4's or 5's. Granted the hole isnt anything superb, but I do believe it serves a purpose.

like I said, I may be bias.

I think Moraine has more beauty than Deer and equally as fair. As for scoring, they both play hard as they should. I think both courses have all fair holes, except 14 at deer Lakes (which I have birdied more than 80%) 14 is just wack. It could be nice, but it's just a crap shoot for the first 450 feet. Then it gets nice. I still wish that the tee for 14 was on top of the hill and the basket was where hole 15's is. Making it the best par 5 in the world

They are both great. But the more I play Moraine and Deer Lakes, the more I like Moraine and the less I like Deer Lakes. Which was another thing I heard from a few people this weekend. They said they loved Deer the first time they played, but the more they came back to play it, the less they liked it.

I have seen the new 13 and 14 improvements. I guess its just the overall holes that I don't like. There is such amazing land back there, I would have liked to see it used better I guess??

And I 4'd it on Thursday during my red tee round...it was the only hole I played from the white tee because I thought it was kinda lame from red.

I had a streak before the hole was cleared of 6 birdies in a row from the blue tee. That was when it was really nasty. I don't believe I have ever bogeyd it in the 30 rounds I have played there??
