Default PDGA Rookie of the Year?

I am just curious what it would take to be eligable for the Rookie of the Year honors (not that I'm expecting) but my friend Nate was nominated last year and we were both kinda fuzzy on when your rookie year starts and ends.

Does it start the moment you play and cash in Pro, and end the same date the following year? Or is it based on the calendar year. Is there a requirement for attending so many tournaments? Sorry for all the questions, but I am rather curious.

Thanks,
Dion

Rookie year is a calendar year. Players who cash for the first time before Am Worlds in a calendar year are rookies for that year. So, turning pro right after Am Worlds is a popular choice so you can get several months of pro events under your belt before your rookie year would start in January and go for a full 12 months. Worst choice if you care about seeking ROY honors is to accept cash for the first time on the weekend just before Am Worlds because then you'll usually have less than 6 months worth of pro stats to include in ROY consideration.

Dion,

What Chuck said is correct. You accepted your first cash actually the day after Am Worlds 2006 ended, so you should be eligible for Rookie of the Year in 2007. Were you to win that award, you would be presented the award at the 2008 Pro-Am Worlds in Kalamazoo.

so, for example, 2006 Advanced Women's World Champion Nicole Frazer would be in contention for the 2007 ROY award which will be awarded at the 2008 Worlds.
