Yeah, I threw my red 175 TeeRex 400' in a headwind yesterday, over a gator pond. It landed on the shore, barely.

I have had my best and worst drives ever with this disc. Very unpredictable.

This disc needs to be more overstable like it was designed to be.

how much distance do you really gain over an Orc with these? i felt like the Wraith was slightly longer but a lot less controllable than my Orcs so i stayed with the Orc (plus i stocked up on Orcs and don't want to have to regret that
) ![]() do you think you'd be losing much if you were throwing Orcs instead? |

For me the Starfire (x) is a good overstable distance & headwind driver. is the TeeRex really that much longer?

Nope and it is more prone to flipping over then the SF.

I had like 11 Orcs stockpiled as well
, but unfortunately, yes then do go significantly further, especially when you get more comfortable with them. The Wraith is faster and glides more than the Orc, it just demands a hyzer release. It is better in the wind than an Orc, and it is also less nose angle sensitive so it is easier to keep the nose down longer. It has a faster low speed fade that ensures a good comeback after the nose down portion of its flight. It can also fly lower to the ground, safer from the wind that is more turbulent higher in the air. Hands down a better disc for pure, straight golf "D". Now the TeeRex, as mentioned earlier in the thread is very different depending on color. If you get an overstable one, it can do things that no other disc I've thrown can do, like going 400'+ in a 10-15 mph headwind on a pretty straight line, as well as flying 380' or so in a dead straight line before fading 50-60' perpedicularly while simultaneously going forward another 30-40'. That being said, the Starfire(x) is still my number 1 driver for a dependable 400' of straight D with a very predictable fade. Just rip it flat and watch it go. The Wraith and TeeRex do different and bigger things though.

Thanks for sharing your experience. i still resist it though (those stockpiled Orcs don't like hearing it)
do others out there who throw used to throw Orcs agree? also, do you throw the Pro wraith, Champ Wraith, or Star Wraith? of the three, i think i found the Champ most to my liking with the little experimenting i did do. however i found the Wraith had a finer line than the Orc between flipping over too much or hyzering and stalling out too soon (although i didn't stay with it long). that's great info you've shared regarding what you've found. feel free to share more ![]() also, what color TeeRex would you recommend and is that the Star version?

Schweb, are you still throwing Orcs or have you switched to Wraiths or TeeRex's?

I generally throw midranges, but I carry a couple Teebirds, and for long distance throws I have:
2 champ orcs 1 teerex 1 firebird I hear what you're saying about the wriath though... compared to an orc you really dont get much more distance (at least I don't) but since I've been throwing them for a while I feel much more confident with them than with the wraith. I think throwing what you are more confident in, and what you know, is much more important than an extra 10 feet. When that differnce gets to 30 or 40 feet then it might be important (ie. Teebirds and Orcs) but accuracy and feel are much more important to me. Getting back to the Teerex thread: How does a star starfire throw compared to a star teerex? I have a Teerex, it's OK. Just wondering

too many discs these days afterall inovva now has a driver named after a supposedly extinct dinosaur. am i the only one who fears were this could lead. i mean soon my bag could have a pterodactyl, triceritops, and a compy in it. meanwhile they are making xds still just nothing like the ones i'm used to. i want the old school xd with that big giant xd stamp on the cover it in the old school dx plastic.

When the Avenger came out I switched to it because it held up better into a head wind then the Orc and was a hair faster. I also prefered the smaller rim for more accurate drives. I also carry the CFR Wraith and a Red Star Tee Rex. The CFR Wraith I will use for pure distance golf drives and for tail wind shots. I use the Tee Rex for anything over 400ft into a head wind. I have found that the dark blue and dark red Tee Rexes to be the most stable and predictable. I have not seen anything but a Star Tee Rex. In the last distance contest I competed in (Oct '05), The Wraith had only been out for about 2 months so I was still using DX Orcs and DX Beasts. At that time, I threw my farthest distance shot with a DX Orc at 459ft. Again at the same time, my golf distance was approximately 425ft using Champion Orcs. (I use a slightly different variation of an X-step run up to add more rotation to my torso when throwing distance contests shots, hence the difference in the two distances.) Since then I have started to use CFR Wraiths for my big distance golf shots, and have yet to compete in another distance contest since. However with the CFR Wraith I am now throwing 475ft golf shots, typically getting more then 430ft with a good throw with exception to the occasional "amateur arm" mishap and with a long golf throw of 510ft at the BG Am Championship #9 at White Park. So for my next distance contest at Worlds, I have picked up a set of DX Wraiths which seem to be slightly more overstable then the CFR and Star versions. So I do think that you can get more distance from the Wraith then the Orc. They are faster discs, and not any more sensitive to inadequate release then any other high speed driver. However, the Wraith will get you in more trouble if thrown improperly. This is the same as the Tee Rex. Both Wraith and Tee Rex are great discs, but with significantly larger rim widths, throwing them takes getting used to. My main drivers for accuracy(400-430ft) are the Beast and the Avenger though, the smaller rims lend them self to more accuracy for myself due to the grip I can get on them. However, I have noticed more inconsistency with color stability with the Tee Rex then anyother Innova disc. But in general, the darker colors seem to be more stable then the lighter colors. Hope this helps.

I didn't want to quote your small novel there...but you're right....darker Innova plastic for stability....I've also notice this with Millinium plastic as well...espcially with the OFs...it's like night and day!

I have definitely noticed color being an issue.
I have a 172 hot pink Star TeeRex with the first run stamp that flies almost exactly like my 170 hot pink Star Wraith. It likes to flip a bit, and is terrible in the wind. I also have a 170 dark blue Star TeeRex with the first run stamp that is like a cross between a Star Starfire and Firebird, but longer. Most of the time its great, but will sometimes hyzer out way early. My 172 baby blue Star TeeRex with the regular stamp seems to be right inbetween the two, but is the most consistent for the combo of distance and fade. I've found myself using my DX Wraiths for distance, and going to the Star Starfire for headwinds and long hyzers. The TeeRexes might find their way into the bag if I'm hitting a really long, open course with varying wind, but for now they'll stay out. |

Used a Pink 175g. Star Teerex alot in DSM this weekend. We had sustained 25+ MPH winds. I flipped it over twice, bot into dead on headwinds and both times it did come back, at the end. I saw everybody flip something, no matter WHO the manufactor was. I wish I had the Red Proto with me, but I dont think it wouldve mattered. It was THAT windy.
Im digging the Teerex for thumbers, also.
