long story.2 knee surgeries in 9 days.I had medial miniscus tear. my cadaver graph was removed , a bone graph was put in its place then found to be infection in the tibial tunnel,a 3rd antibiotic impregnated graph was put in its place.I have no ACL and I have a staph infection in my knee (MRSA).I will have IV antibiotics for the next 6 weeks. I had a PICC installed today!! something like that, i am quite out of my mind currently..

Whats the prognosis with no acl. If everything else heals up does that mean no twisting or high impact. Did they mention anything about an artificial acl?

I reread what you posted more closely and sounds like the acl is the least of your worries. Where are you now? Will they let you go home with the IV? Hang in there.

I should be fine in the future with no ACL . i can run walk and do most things normal front and back just no lateral type movements. I can have an ACL replacement in the future only if needed. As of right now there is nothing solid to anchor an ACL to on the tibia end. That is what the bone graph is for.If I have an ACL replacement in the future they will most likely use part of my hamstring. This will only be done if absolutely necessary.

I am in the hospital and should be released tomorrow. Yes I will be getting the IV on my own. I had a PICC put in today which is a long term cathoder from just above my elbow to a major artery in my chest. I will need antibiotics Via (IV) every 12 hours for the next 6 weeks . The reason for this is that the MRSA (staff infection) is located within my tibial tunnel and there is very little blood circulation in this region. For this region it must be attacked very aggresively and its resistance to most antibiotics. The Tibial Tunnel is the area where my ACL replacement(cadaver graph patella tendon) from 5 years ago was attached.

So this all started with a medial meniscus tear? Give me a call in the next couple of days. 789-6956. Just if you have time. Maybe once you get home and get settled in. Good Luck

How are you doing Efrain? Are you able to walk around? I read up on the MRSA and it is some bad stuff. The web site said the treatment you are receiving is a very expensive one. But it is one of the only ones that is effective. Did you read up on the maggot treatment? Its true, if someone has the open sore (most common is an ankle) they use maggots to eat the dead tissue and they leave all other tissue and it resulted in a cure in like 16 of 17 cases. But that is only an external treatment. Did the Dr. say that you would never play again? I hope not. Give me a call sometime and good luck. 789-6956

I guess I have been on another planet for the last week. Efrain, good god man, sorry to hear about your problem's. Here's hoping that your luck in 08' changes and your able to do the things you want to do. I would say that DG is the least of your worries. Your health is the most important thing at this point. Hang in the buddy and feel free to ask for help if you need it. If its a beer you need, have someone drive you out to the course and I'll pound some with ya. I'll bring the cfo's and you bring the medicine and will have a good ol' time.
Hope to see ya soon brother.
