Default New SoCal Disc Golf Website?

I know this isn't probably the best time to bring this up, but what are the chances of having a new SCDG website in the near future? I would love to be able to link people to the orgs website without being embarassed.

Has this been thought of? Does anyone have any ideas about this? Does there need to be a webmaster position on the new BOD for 2006?

Let the brainstorming begin.

I nominate Gwillimnation to the 2006 BOD.

I wasn't volunteering myself, I just want to get some dialogue. I don't know how to use computers other than typing messages on this board.

Michelle,
What is so embarassing about the site is that the colours are horrible, the graphics are horrendous, the layout sucks, and the theme is non-existant. Also, there are no options for leaving feedback for any news put up. A message board would be fabulous, to feed any possibility of a "community" which is lacking.

All in all, the site looks it was a school project for a thirteen year old boy back in 1996 who was excited that he just learned how to "hack" html.

Hope that is a sufficient answer for you, Michelle.

Hey, cut Ry some slack. It wasn't a complaint, it was a question/suggestion.

Now, your posts about prayer at player meetings... THAT was a complaint. :-P

There is already a new website design. The basic set up has been ready since October, but with the BOD busy with the Ventura Open and the Championships, the unveiling has been pushed back to December.

Michael McNamara with Burbank Disc Golfers has stepped up with the redesign for So Cal.org and will be on the BOD next year. I am sure he would appreciate any offer for help. He will be volunteering at the Championships this weekend.

Sorry to be so harsh, but the whole "I won't do anything but the whole site sukcs and sukks and succs" thing bugs me.

I'm just glad that it's there and that it has been kept current. If somebody can do a better job then they should step up an do it. It sounds like somebody is doing just that.....and they didn't even have to come and blast the efforts of somebody who was keeping it up to date for free.

You assume too much. I NEVER said I wouldn't do anything. I simply stated a problem, and encouraged dialogue. I think you maybe got offended by my statements? I just wanted to be sure that this issue was on the agenda to be taken care of soon, because, as I stated and you so frugally requoted, the website sucks.

I always thought of the theme as "utilitarian". Features cost money. And someone with such an....ostentatious display of melanin as you'self should realize colour is of personal preference...but kudos for the correct spelling!

I agree the blue lettering on blue background should be changed... and the red IS a bit much but I think it's well organized and provides tons of info. I'm not embarrassed to send it to folks, but it IS a bit hard to read.

Rhett can't take any iota of criticism whatsoever, not once ounce. One little complaint will get you ripped a new [I'm a potty-mouth!]HOLE. I wish he'd learn to learn from people's input instead of going directly to the defensive!!

But maintaining a website is a lot of work and can be frustrating too. One little misplaced ">" can throw the entire page into crap... so I'll give him kudos for that part... N-Kaaaaay?

Before I forget what I logged-on-for in the first place: How 'bout an intro, or an e-mail for Michael McNamara; hear from the Horse, etc.

What you aren't comprehending, Slo, is that this: "...the colours are horrible, the graphics are horrendous, the layout sucks..." was said AFTER I was asked what I didn't like about it, by Michelle. I answered Michelle, how is this criticizing Rhett?

I wasn't criticizing anyone, I was suggesting that we look into getting a new website. No need to bring emotions into the equation.

Where's the lack of comprehension? Tom 'inherited' the site from creator Rhett, and basically changed a few colours. If that's not a matter-of-fact then someone, please, correct me.

WAS there even a SoCal website before Rhett? It's possible that could be the case; I wasn't online until a few years ago; the Association dates-back to 1996.

LOTS and LOTS of people heard about our Open through THAT site, not PDGA.com, or word-of-mouth, so thank you, hypothetically non-Rhett suppositionally extant-type webmeister person, you.

Hi Michelle,

You've been baiting me again on a variety of threads. I'll try not to take the bait from you again, though.

In any event, I don't maintain the website. I'm glad that it is there and I'm glad that I can find the schedule, the entry forms, the results, and the SoCal points all in one convenient place. Thank you Tom La Torre for doing that for us.

If someone is unhappy with the website then they can step up and help out. Using a bunch of abusive language to describe the current state of things isn't a productive way to go.

Right now the SoCal website is a low-maintenance affair that manages to keep all the basic and necessary info in one place. If the new volunteers have the time and inclination to add more features then that would be gravy.

The Oregon Disc Sports Association ( ODSA) webpage is a great tool for Oregon DG'ers to use, and I would think it could be seen as a valuable template for any geographical area in need of info. The one caveat is the message board. The odsa board, like all message baords, can be a great way to spread info to members, but it can also be a way that people can sling hurtful words and accusations in relative annonymity. You take the good with the bad. Good luck to all the socallians with their web endevors.

Erik

Ps. Rhett: Come back to the odsa board sometime. It's been under new management for a while.

I'd prefer all-metrics, myself, s'il vous plaît.

I've spoken with Michael by now; he is not only interested in help, but IDEAS. So all, please.
I'll get his contact t-row.

...an extremely belated thanks to the original SoCal Webmeister, also an Association founder, Mr. Loren Price.
