Best Dallas area courses?

I played one of the courses at Cedar Hill this weekend, and I thought it was horrible! I'm not sure what course it was, but there is no skill involved on most of the holes.

Sorry, but there is plenty of skill involved out there. I agree that there is *some* luck involved on a few holes, but on most, there is a defined route......whether it be righty friendly, or sandal friendly.

It was the course that plays over the pond two times.

I was just saying that there is more luck than anything on the course that I played. I like courses with low flying shots through trees, but there were to many in the middle of the fairway for me.

Maybe it was just because it was the first time that I played it.

That's the Beaver course....wait until you see the Coyote if you don't like trees in the middle. What's wrong with throwing left or right of the trees in the middle?

Wow, and that course is the more open of the 2!

For the course you played I see the luck factor on these holes:

6: very minor
7: definetly have to get lucky to get out of the trees for a birdie chance. I have never got a 4 on this hole because of being "unlucky."
12: I have always thought that 1 of the 2 trees in the middle of the gap should be removed. This has a luck factor but not huge. I still birdie it about 50% of the time.
13: This hole has less luck than appears. Tons of stuff in the fair way, but if you play it as a 2 shot hole, hit the gap off the teebox, you have a 100' upshot that isn't too difficult (no matter how unlucky of a lie you ended up with).

Those are the only holes on the Beaver that I could see anyone having a reasonable arguement for the luck factor. Only 2 holes out of 18 are actually are significantly lucky and 2 other have a very minor amount. In my opinion, most courses have MORE lucky holes than this course.

yikes. thats the Beaver course. maybe theres some luck on hole 12 and even maybier on 7. but wheres luck involved on 1,2,3,4,5,6,8,9,10,11,13,14,15,16,17, or 18?

like john said, go play the coyote - thats where luck becomes a factor!

I looked at the Coyote. It seemed a little more open. I don't mind trees in the middle, but for someone thats just getting back into the game after about 9 years

Maybe it had to do with the whole experience that we had out there. We walked through the woods for about an hour before we figured out that we went to the wrong part of the park. We parked at in this little rock parking lot and walked on this trail through the woods. When we saw the first basket, we thought **** that sucks to have to walk through all of those woods to get to this course. Then we saw a bunch of people playing, and I didnt understand where the hell they came from because my truck was the only thing parked where we did.

Then I figured out that we parked in the wrong place. I had to walk back through all of those woods to get the truck.

There's a second entrance and parking lot a little further up. You should have seen it if you played 1-6 on the Beaver Course.

The Beaver is wide open when compared to the Coyote.

I liked them both.

Since the Cedar Hill course is about 10min away from my house, I'm sure I will be playing it more often.

I almost hit an ace on two of the holes though. The hole that has the little creek to the right of it seems pretty easy to ace.

discfreak... go to www.earthoffice.net/discgolf/coursedirectory.php and pick the Cedr Hill link from the list of courses on the right side of the page. then choose the beaver or coyote layouts... i am starting to wonder if you played a mix of the courses.

to answer your disc question, you should investigate Discraft's Glide for sure. their Status also could work for you. the Glide is a mid range with an amzing amount of distance. this makes it incredibly useful for the shorter courses with tight lines like the coyote. the Breeze is also a good turnover disc, although some players outgrow it quickly.

Not for a specific right turning hole. Just a disc to get me out of trouble when I'm in the brush and have to throw it around trees to the right. Everything that used would flatten out and go back left.

I'm just looking for a disc that will hold its right fade line.

wow the pond must be waaaay down! usually you have to throw over it to get to the pin. kinda a mental shot, cuz it isnt all that long. but hole 9 is a righty hyzer.

$20 gets you 2 prototype Z-discs, hat, supercolor miniultrastar, and your entry into the event.

Yeah, thats what I'm talking about.

I was down there last night working on #9 long and couldn't believe how low the water was. There is a three foot wide "creek" standing were there used to be 80 feet of water across and 180 feet of water from the pin. We sure could use some rain in Cedar Hill.

Did anyone ever think I would say that???

NorthWest, try Lake Park in Lewisville. We have a ton of great courses... what's the approximate address of where you're staying?

Good list, but as BaldGuy states, it really depend on where you're staying. It's easy to spend all day driving with a metroplex as large as ours. To add to the list; Near DFW Airport check out Arlington's Veteran's Park. South Fort Worth check out Crowley's Bicentennial Park. Those are our best 7 courses IMHO.

I am staying East, at the Comfort Suites in Mesquite......so I am guessing that Rockwall would be closest? I am getting in on Noon on Monday and have the rest of the daylight to get in some golf.
