Default Disc Golf Live video magazine

The second episode of Disc Golf LIve video magazine is at the duplication house and should be ready by later this week.

Disc Golf Live is a pdga-supported project geared towards bringing disc golf to the many community access television stations around the country. The project is also underwritten by Innova discs.

Copies of the show will be going out soon to our broadcast partners around the country who will submit the show to their local community access station for broadcast.

If you have a community station in your area and would like a free copy of the show, please send me an email or PM. Copies of the show are also available by subscription for personal viewing.

This episode includes coverage of the 2004 Great Lakes Open (featuring Scott Martin, Chris Heeren, Cam Todd, Mike Randolph, Elaine King, Des Reading, and Barrett White) and a lesson on the forehand throw from Mark "Lizard Lawyer" Ellis. The featured event is the 2003 Homie's Fall Classic, highlighted by final nine coverage from the pro men, pro women, and am men's finals.

Details on the project can be found at the DGL website.

As always we are also looking to hear from individuals who would like to submit video to DGL, for segments such as event coverage, featured player interviews, course reviews, etc.

It looks like the station California in Oroville @ Butte College streams a feed to the web. Now, if I could just figure out when they actually show Disc Golf Live, we could check it out! Anyone know?

I'll try to get an update on Butte broadcast times. DGL is probably off the schedule since shows play only for a month or so on most stations, and episodes come out only every other month.

According to this website -

http://www.calcable.org/pegchannel_search.html

- there is a public access station which serves El Cerrito (and several other nearby communities).

Let me know if you want to get a copy of the show to submit locally.

Yeah, absolutely. I'd love to give it a shot. Do I just need to write the station a letter? Or do I head down there with a video tape?

Even though I majored in communications in college, I'm a little clueless as to how the public access world works.

Every station is different. Generally speaking, the bigger the city, the more hoops to jump through to get involved. Usually just paperwork and maybe a brief training session if you want to use equipment at all (with many stations offering extensive training and equipment use opportunities).

Mostly, I've found folks just have to walk in and hand over a tape. Most stations define access by one's mailing address. For example, I live in a township next to Ann Arbor (where I receive the Ann Arbor station) but I don't qualify to submit my own show - so a pal in the city has to do it for me.

Give the station a call and I'm sure they'll let you know what you need. Email me with your address etc and I'll get something in the mail your way soon.

Bump. Posted this late last week and wanted to be sure folks got notice of the latest show. If you haven't looked into getting disc golf onto your local community access schedule, now's the time to do so.

Its not ESPN, but then again, it is free!

Well if you subscribed to Disc TV because you believed in what they were doing and were disapointed with the rest of us with the failed efforts-THERE IS HOPE!
Joe Wander and Disc Golf Live is really coming together. Each episode seems to get better and better. This latest 4th episode is no exception.
-Fun and knowledgable segment on snow golf. (ahhh, memories for me now. I have to show this to my Texan buddies that just don't understand)
-Great coverage of the US Womens Championship (Where else you gonna see this)
-Coverage from Hawaii, how cool!
-Even a segment sponsored by the PDGA National Tour

Thanks guys, this is totally a project worthy of support!
Anyone can subscribe to this and have a copy sent six times a year to your door in VHS or DVD for only $60

We've been watching old vhs tapes of Disc TV. This is good news. I would love to have this subscription and will submit my request soon. With the subscription, will we be able to request the episodes that we've missed so far?

Thanks, Jay!

Your words are too kind! I've enjoyed putting the shows together and am working on the next episode as we speak.

I've been trying to connect with Kev since I first developed the idea for the show. He's the perfect field host. Irreverent, warped, undernouished. Although my hopes of lining up Hunter S. are finally dashed, I'm still hoping to one day get a camera into Kevin's hands.

Laura - I have a few copies of the earliest shows kicking around, but due to limited hard-drive space, I can't make fresh DVDs without major bother, so the availability of things is kind of hit and miss.

Thanks again.

Anyone interested in submitting video for the show should give me a shout.

Hi, folks in the Santa Cruz area, including Capitola and Watsonville...

Derek over at DGA has arranged with the Santa Cruz station to play Disc Golf Live. The show will air Wednesday May 25th at 9:00 pm on channel 27 (Santa Cruz) and channel 73 (Capitola and Watsonville). This isn't an easy station to get onto and replays will depend on the level of response the show gets. Let your peeps know about the show and be sure to tune in. Here's a link to the station if you want to request replays:

http://www.communitytv.org/

Other folks interested in having DGL played on their local community access TV station should give me a shout.

Thanks, Derek!

Hey Joe-It's Daemon
I meant to tell you when it firs t came out, but it slipped my mind. In the Mystic Mills portion, you filmed a spit out of mine (with Discraft, of course) on #5, and called me Mike Raley. I was on the verge of fame, but you ruined it!
I love watching that putt repeatedly tho, the spit is hilarious. Keep up the good work

Hi, Daemon. Sorry about that, dude! I'll try to make it up to you somehow. Next show has some No Foolin' video, but I don't think you show up anywhere. The camera crew of 1 will be out at HM a lot for the GLO, so I'll have to get you then. Maybe a little doubles, you and Hammock vs a couple of tallish lanky fellows like Scooter. Even a few holes of that would make a nice"compare and contrast" that sort of segment. Or yours could be the lead shot in the "spit outs suck more than Red Tees" segment.

See you soon.

I was in KY getting beat when No Foolin was going on. Yea, me/hammock with scooter/climo would be a good one. I think their team would have very close to double the height of our team.

Glad to hear this Joe. Another opportunity to showcase the Country Club, Hudson Mills. Maybe some more Discers will take this as an opportunity to get "Disc Golf Live" on their local cable outlets.

Hi, SJay, thanks for the plug.

Episode 6 is in the final editing stages, the voice over should be completed this w/e and the show should be ready to duplicate by the end of the week if the creek don't rise. That should have me mostly free during DGLO week to collect some footage for future segments.

See you Sunday AM, bring your jingles. (JonnyV might show, so you'll have to give them to him this week.)

Hi, RayJay

Since the MSDGC folks were kind to share excerpts of their great DVD with Disc Golf Live, episode #5 features two fine aces (and a lot of other good golf). Episode 6 is at the duplicator's and should reach broadcast partners shortly.

I'll be there, Jerry. Here's the lowdown on the next show...

If disc golf is not playing on your local community / public access station, contact Disc Golf Live to get your free copy to submit locally and hear folks say "I saw disc golf on TV last night!"

The sixth episode of Disc Golf Live video magazine will be in the mail heading towards our broadcast partners by mid-week. This episode marks a full year of disc golf on television around the US. Thanks to all who have helped facilitate broadcasts or submitted material for the show.

DGL is a PDGA-supported initiative bringing disc golf to community and public access TV stations anywhere a disc golfer is able to submit the show for broadcast. Underwriting for this episode was also provided by Discraft and Discwing, Ltd.

The World Championships are a big part of show #6, with segments on the upcoming Pro and Am Worlds, along with a look back at the competition among the Juniors at the '04 Worlds in Des Moines, Iowa. The No Foolin' event from Ann Arbor is recounted, including the do's and don'ts of retrieving a disc from the water, the story of an accomplished amateur on the brink of going pro, and of course the Shot of the Month. (Soon to be retooled as the Throw of the Show.) Also included are national and local event calendars.

More information about Disc Golf Live, including details on submitting video for the show and links to public access TV listings, can be found at www.discgolflive.com. Copies are provided for free to local broadcast partners. Individual subscriptions are also available.

Disc Golf Live was spotted all over the courses during the DGLO. I'll bet some great footage was taken. I can't wait to see what makes the edit and is in the next episode.
Maybe something about a new course record for Steve Rico on his favorite course Hudson Mills Black Championship Baskets with 8 under par.

Hi, SRJ

Dried off yet? My shoes are on the porch getting some sun this morning.

Didn't catch a frame of Stevie except at awards, from what I can tell so far.

Did catch some good stuff, although for the first two days the bad to good shot ratio was pretty high.

The Monster is a bear to shoot. Can't see many baskets from the tee and vice versa. Russian Olives all over.

Did catch Scott Martin on hole 2 Saturday Am (lead group) when he stuck a wedgie. Never seen a golfer move so fast in my life. That should make a good "rules" segment (probably have to shoot for days to get a DROT to round things out).

Caught Scott making a huge deuce in the final round on 11. Haven't reviewed it yet, but I think it should look nice. No one made a deuce on 10, but I think there were 3 on 11. Go figure.

Back to work now.

Default Disc Golf Live episode 8 in the can

If you are one of the folks lucky enough to have a community access TV station in your town, contact Disc Golf Live and hear folks say "I saw disc golf on TV last night!"

Disc Golf Live video magazine episode eight should soon reach our broadcast partners across the country. DGL is a PDGA-supported initiative bringing disc golf to community and public access TV stations anywhere a disc golfer is able to submit the show for broadcast. Underwriting for this episode was also provided by Innova, Discraft and Discwing.

Episode eight includes in-depth coverage of the Great Lakes Open, a PDGA NT event held this past June. This includes a look at the Hudson Mills Monster course, and a review of the results of the amateur and professional competitions. The showdown between Ken Climo, Dave Feldberg, Al Schack, and Scott Martin makes for some great footage. We get a look at the senior set, including an interview with Peter Shive and the Legends finals from the '04 Des Moines Worlds. We examine the nexus between disc and traditional golf as we take a look at some video from Florida and get the lowdown on the upcoming Players Cup. Thanks to Denny Ritner for that footage, and to Joe Todd for his work on a Southern Nationals Am Championship recap. There are two calendars: local events and a 2006 PDGA NT/Major listing. As always, there are a couple of minutes of footage at the tail end of the show so local information can be inserted as warranted or the show can be shortened if needed.

More information about Disc Golf Live, including details on submitting video for the show and links to public access TV listings, can be found at www.discgolflive.com. Copies are provided for free to local broadcast partners. Individual subscriptions are also available.
