Well that was certainly "snow bowl" type weather! Just a few flakes were falling as I got to the course to set up the Short Game course, but by the time we got around the layout once, the snow was coming down pretty good. By the second time around we couldn't see the tee lines. 18 degrees and windy with snow on the ground made for a tough day but we got through it with no casualties.
New Top of Texas Short Game champion! John Rock edges past last year's champ by a few shots for a 51 (18 holes). Pretty slim on food pounds but a very good cash donation once again. Thanks to everyone who helped out to show our community that Disc Golfers do make a difference. |

The Amarillo YMCA's corporate cup is coming up soon. As of the last board meeting, the disc golf round will happen again at the North Y (and Hines Memorial Park). DG seems to be gaining ground with the YMCA board of directors. Maybe one day they can host a round at their own private course next to the South Y.

Don't forget, Saturday Handicap Round on Saturdays at 1600 (4pm). Ace Pot is climbing (near $160 now), and the CTP Scratch-off throw has generated some big winners ($2 for a chance at a $5 Lottery scratch-off game). Show up on time and moderate your alchohol intake or you'll have to try again the next week.

Just finished chatting with my contact at the YMCA. They're ready and excited for this year's Corporate Cup event, and Disc Golf is again a part of the fun! Sounds like some new sponsors and some long time sponsors are back. One of the new sponsors already has 7 teams signed up for DG! They may be giving United Grocery Stores a run for the title.
The round of DG will happen at the North Y (next to Hines Memorial Park), and we'll probably set up the course the same as last year. If anyone has course requests let me know as early as possible so we have a better chance of working it in. We should have nicer conditions this year since we have gotten a bit more rain recently, but the loss of some large trees may make the set-up look different. It is sad, but all of this area has lost many older (and some newer) trees due to the drought and disease. |

Hey Rock, it looks like we are booked Sept 29-30 and Colorado States is Sept 15-16. If you are looking at 22-23 we should be able to make it. Wanted to let you know well in advance in case you are locked on 29-30 and need to make other plans for am prizes.

YMCA Corporate Cup is looking strong this year. As of last week's board meeting, there were 20 teams registered for Disc Golf and a few businesses yet to turn in their rosters. Looks like we'll get more of a time slot this year so we can get everyone through the course. Yee Haw!

On Aug. 18 there will be a lot going on at the North Y all day so parking may be kind of tricky. There is a parking lot for the school close by and there may even be some shaded spots there (plus it will be a perfect viewing spot for Hole #2). I'm trying to get the folks at the Y to set up the course for Friday practice. Hopefully it'll happen. |

WOW!
32 teams are signed up for the YMCA event! Way more than last year's 14 teams (which was 5 more than the first year). That is excellent news for the growth of the game. Now our problem is how to get everyone through the course. Last year we did 2 teams on a few holes and did 1 time around the course. This year we'll probably do 3 flights with the same team scramble format. I've had some calls by players wanting to play the course to get familiar with it, so I'm pushing for a Friday afternoon course set-up so players can walk through or play the course. It's pretty straight forward with no OB (players can use the roads as OB to make the course a bit tougher if they choose), and it's fairly easy to find your way around even without a map. I'll have it marked (painted on the ground) by this afternoon if anyone wants to check it out. There may be maps of the course available in the office at the North Y, just check in the office and ask if there are any left from last year's event (the set-up will be very similar, if not identical). |

It doesn't look like the trees on #5 on the YMCA course have recovered from our toasty weather. Most of them look dead and the grass in that area is almost non-existant. But the rest of the course looks pretty good. All marked and ready for baskets!

More than 100 Disc Golfers for the YMCA event! Many of them were first-timers, as well as a few seasoned players. 3 flights of disc golf action provided plenty of fun for all involved, plus one player scored a Hole-in-One! Pretty impressive considering it was on Hole #2, an uphill, through the trees, approximately 220 foot shot on an Innova Skillshot basket (canvas).
Big thanks to all of the corporate sponsors, the many volunteers, and especially the YMCA. |

The online registration is up and running for Top of Texas Open. You can register online through the pdga until September 14th, after that you need to register in person with John. There is a registration form available at the sign up page ( http://www.pdgasignup.com/Qstore/Qst...ROD=1346498783 then click on tournament flyer) so you can print it out and mail it in or bring it with you to save time. Disc-Diva will be there to handle the am prizes again.

Lunch on Saturday is taken care of so players won't have to leave if they don't want to.
The weather is looking pretty mild for the weekend. |

ouch! But there is always tomorrow.
Excellent golf weather makes for good times. Evidently our flyers that have been up for 5-6 weeks are the wrong color. We'll try to line up a different printer next year maybe. Go LONE STAR INTERIORS! Thanks for the donuts and pizza and drinks. |

And don't forget DISC-DIVA. Steve and Kathy are always stepping up to help improve Disc Golf in our area. Big thanks from the TPFDA!
Also, Jerry Kingston already has the scores posted from today (you really didn't have to post mine though). The Abilene club pitched in a disc, scorecard clipboard, and other goodies for the ring-of-fire. Lone Star Interiors donated over $100 of goodies to give away, too. And the Pampa club pitched in a disc and bag as well. THANKS FOR EVERYTHING GUYS! |
