I carry my cell phone with me, but only have it on during casual rounds. I carry it in case of emergencies.
We had an emergency out at the Buckhorn Open in February, so it was very good that someone had a cell phone out there that had some sort of signal strength. |

Ok, so my wife has decided to buy me a new DG bag for Christmas and is willing to spend whatever on it if I like it (I know its rough). So I was looking to hear what people out there think about their bags, but PLEASE keep it objective and not that you like your Revolution bag because its perty. Also, I am recovering from a back issue which caused me to have uneven shoulders so any bag bought other than the Gateway Backpack (which I am at this point leaning toward) would have to have quadshocks added which would affect the overall price (and thus my total christmas loot). The main bags I was looking at were the Gateway Backpack, Gateway Tour Bag, and POSSIBLY a revolution bag, but they don't seem to hold as many discs as the Gateway Bags. I know that other threads have discussed bags and which ones people liked, but I am wanting to get answers of WHY they like them and think they are superior and not just opinions. So please give me specific reasons if you vote for one of the bags. Just for the record, my current bag is the Innova Deluxe and I fill that bag easily (roughly 17-18 discs in it I think) so I wouldn't want anything smalller. Thanks for everyone's input and I hope everyone else's Xmas is as Merry as mine.

While I use the Innova Tour Bag and hence do not own the Revo bag; I have seen that the Carolina bag with the new quad shocks is about the best you can buy now. The Texas bag, which I have seen is extremely durable and the Carolina bag is supposed to be tougher.

I'm kind of going through the same thing and I'm also leaning twards the Gateway Backpack Bag. All I ever seem to hear about Revolution Bags is "they're the best" but I never seem to hear how they are superior to other, compareable bags like the Gateway bags. I'm sure they're extremely high quality bags, but the way people talk about them gives me the impresson that lots of people buy Revolution bags simply because they are fashionable. I don't tour or anything and I have yet to be shot at on the course so I'm not sure why I'd need to spend $140 on a bag and straps instead of $100. I have a $50 L.L. Bean backpack I got in high school that's been through at least as much abuse as a disc golf bag will ever see and it's still in great shape.
The reviews I've seen of the Gateway bags are just as good as the reviews of the Revolution bags, just lower in number. |

The Revolution Mini is dope if you play with less than 10 discs

I would love to get a Revolution bag and probably will when my Gateway Tour bag wears out. I have used it two full seasons now and it is holding up great. I am not the kind of person to throw away a good bag just to buy the latest and I am sure, the greatest. With back problems, I would recommend a much smaller bag. Truth be told, anyone can get by with 5-7 discs. I know it is a comfort thing, and I always carry 17 discs, but at my home course all I need is three discs, and I can cut back on all the courses I know well. The problem is you need more discs for those courses you are not familiar with. Revolution makes a smaller bag, as well as all the other companies. There is nothin wrong with a light Lightning bag till you get over your back problem, and they are cheap. I carried a big Lightning bag for a couple years and when it ripped, I just had it repaired at a tarp repair store (Kansas perk). Before that I carried a small camera bag! I know it is christmas and you want the big dog, but you might also buy a nice smaller bag as a back-up and as a small bag till you are 100%. My 2 cents...

Sounds like everyone is suggesting the Revo Carolinas or Texas bag. I've seen these, and they do look spiffy, but I like the PDGA Tour bag better (I know it's not in the poll though). With Quad shocks and shipping, it's less than $90 in most cases and definitely less than $100. I've been using mine for almost two years now, and, although it's faded a little because I got a blue one, the bag works great. I added some 3/4 or 1 inch PVC pipe as a frame to hold the discs better (just a pet peive of mine). You can't beat holding 15-20 discs, 2 drink holders, and all the pockets. And I'm known for carrying too much extra junk (Gore-tex socks, bug spray, Tylenol, kleenex, 3-4 thin towels, sunscreen, swimshorts sometimes, tennis ball, slingshot, PDA to keep score, cell phone, keys, and gummy bears). I'm not sure if the Revo bag can hold all of that, but both bags hold up very well.

I had an Innova team bag. Which is about the same as the PDGA bag but a little bit bigger. This thing ripped on me in less then 8 months of not that heavy use. I now have a Revolution Carolina Team bag. I can tell you that this bag holds MUCH more STUFF then my Innova tour bag. The side pockets are A LOT deeper and hold alot more stuff then the tour bag side pockets. I thought i carried alot of stuff when i had my tour bag but i carry alot more now and it doesnt even seem like it.
I carry huge towels like the ones you get at swim clubs or hotels when you go to the pool. The side pocket on the Revolution Carolina bag holds 3 of these. These are like 3 ft long and about 1.5 ft wide and pretty thick. I carry a clip board and a Crown Royal bag filled with sharpies and Advil and Tums. Then i carry gloves in there for winter and a hat. I also can carry 2 nalgene water bottles in the drink holders that are on both sides. I thought the Revs were just a fad or something untill i got mine and now i KNOW they are the BEST!!!!!!!! |

I agree with jeterdog, the PDGA Tour bag is very comparable in size and function with the Revo bag and a lot cheaper.
And the best part is when you buy one you will be supporting the PDGA not just another company. Use the extra money you save to become a member of the PDGA if you haven't already.

I have a Revo Club bag, and I like it a lot. The rain flap is a very simple but very cool feature.
HOWEVER, BE WARNED. IF YOU KICK YOUR REVO BAG REALLY HARD, THE FLAT PIECES OF THE FRAME MAY BREAK/EXPLODE. |

Ok I'm gonna go against the grain here and say go Gateway. The tour bag has a huge pocket at each end, 2 bottle holders (each will fit a 32 oz Gatorade bottle), a plastic and PVC frame, scorecard pocket, an internal pocket for minis and small stuff, and 2 putter pockets (one up front and the other on the end w/ no drink holders).
As far as durability goes I've had no problems with mine. I won my first one in the summer of '97 and used it for 6 years as my main bag. I had some stitching start to come loose so I got a new tour bag and am using it as my main bag and have downgraded my old one to a glow bag. The extra space is great because now I have room to carry a 6 pack cooler internally with my glow discs. Cold beer and glow golf, what could be better? Out of all the bags on the market Gateway and Revolution definitely make the best bags. Gateway's bag is cheaper, that's why I got another instead of going with a Revo bag when I replaced my first Gateway bag. If you are lucky enough where cash isn't an object, get a Revo. If you are like me and want best durability for the money, get a Gateway. It will serve you just as well and save you enough to put a new driver or two in your new bag. |

I have a Carolina Team bag so I went out to see if my bag would hold 9 drivers 5 mids and 3 putters. You can do this and have room for 3 more discs or a towel in the main disc pocket. That leaves the side pockets empty for whatever else you want to carrry. Plus you can fit another disc in the back padded pocket that rests on your back
![]() I carry 6 mids 5 putters and 5 drivers and i still have room to add more disc in the main compartment if i really wanted too. |

That did sound like an ad didn't it? Whoops. Oh well, thats what I carry.
[disclaimer] I am in no way sponsored by Gateway, paid by Gateway, or owe Gateway or their affiliates anything. I did play Ozark once and it kicked me squarely in the nuts but its still one of my favorite courses ever. I carry their bag and a few of their discs but was not compensated for this endorsement. [/disclaimer] Hey Dave, you can just hit me up later for that endorsement

Thanks rodney,
I guess I dont remember you at Ozark. I take it you traveled with Brad McCoy and camped between Ozark hole 12 and 13? Maybe I can Talk my grandfather into one more tourney this Spring. Would you come back? ("Place ad below") We dont really advertise it but we always throw in at least a wizard and maybe another disc as well for free with each bag order. Ask if you can test fly an ELEMENT OR ELEMENT X in the special instructions box, leaving the desired weight. All we ask is an email report on the flight! |

I have the Revolution Club Bag and could not be happier with it. I have been trying to get down to 14 but I generally carry 15 discs. 1 putter in the putter pocket (if you get the Revolution Team Bag you can carry 2 putters in the putter pouch) 2 more putters in the midrange side of the bag, 4 midranges, and 8 drivers. I have room for another driver and sometimes carry 16 discs. That leaves 2 roomy zipper side pockets that could easily carry 4 more discs, but I use one side for a fold-up rain coat and the other side for miscellaneous items like minis, rule book, sharpies, score pads, tape measure, whatever.
Imo, if you buy a Revolution you'll never buy a different brand again. (and you may not need another bag for 10 years or more) |
