Anyone know how this event is played out? and how does one qualify?

You have to play the PDGA World Championships. That's how you "qualify".

As far as how it plays out, I'm not exactly sure what the preliminary contest was, but the final was a bracketed, head-to-head competition featuring the top-10 finishers in the preliminaries. It was a race to 50 points, with each competitor having a choice of stations worth various amounts of points from which to putt in an alternating fashion. The 5 pointers were roughly 20 feet, the 10 pointers were ~40 feet, the 20 pointers were ~60 feet, and the 40 pointers were ~80 feet. Competitors took turns throwing one putt from the station of their choice. First competitor to earn 50 points won the match.

That's how they did it this year. No idea how it has been done before, but it has always been a side event at Worlds.
