Default Babysitting

Is Charlotte Worlds going to offer a baby sitting or childcare type service per course or one at the tournament hotel like Iowa worlds did? Or can you recommend a daycare center for all of us that have children? Thank You - Courtney McCoy 18835

It depends on the cart. If it's one of the small-wheeled pull-behinds the answer is very different than for a big-wheeled jogging stroller type cart. I'll try to peg them on a 1 to 5 scale with 1 not at all friendly and 5 being "roll on," based on big-wheel carts. Small wheel drops the score.

Renny - 3 (some holes are 1's if you're in the rough)
Bradford - 3
Nevin - 3
Eastway - 4
Idlewild - 2
Hornet's Nest - 4
Sugaw - 5
Kilborne - 5
Bailey - 5
Elon Eager - 4
Elon Angry - 3, but leaning towards 2 because of some difficult transitions
Winget - 2 (course raw; may improve by Worlds)
Reedy Creek - 3
RL Smith - 1 (course a little raw; will never be cart-friendly)

Courtney - Good question. I don't believe that's a subject the Host Committee has considered yet. I'll ask and see what may be workable.

Thank you for considering! I know that there are a lot of moms and dads that this could help out a LOT! I'm wondering if you all could maybe contact Jonathan Poole and pick his brain about his babysitting that is offered at USDGC I'm sure there are insurance concerns, but maybe you could find a local church that could volunteer.

Yeah, we've already been told of strong liability concerns. We'll look at licensed third party options.

Default Juniors Transportation?

I have a similar concern. I am hoping that I and both my daughters will be playing. All three of us played in KC in 2009 and they had bus transportation set up for junior players. There was a per-student fee and I just dropped them off at the host hotel and they were bussed to and from their course for that day. It worked out very well, but the pools were set up so that both of them were always at the same course at the same time.

From what I have seen, the three of us may be playing three different courses at the same time or times very close together. Are plans being made for transportation needs for junior players? Thank you!

We've been able to slightly tweak the schedule specifically for Adv GM and Adv Sr GM to increase the number of spots available from 72 to 108 and 20 to 36, respectively. Look for the updated schedule and course assignments posted later today or tomorrow on PDGA and Charlotte Worlds sites. No other division's courses, schedules or pool capacities were changed in this update v1.4.

I certainly hope that the PDGA is as generous in expanding pool X when it fills as there is already 13 of the allotted 20 spots taken and not one of them is a junior girl as thanks to the debacle of telling everyone in NOV that you no longer got in to Worlds as a junior by playing an Event as in the past - instead of doing it for 2013 so people could plan ahead.

We are still almost 6 weeks from open registrations and i'm pretty sure that the 20 will be met before then.

Maybe Chuck could start looking at where that pool can be expanded or merged with other juniors as it was in KC instead of having people who are at the opposite end of the age spectrum as you have ADV GM men and women as well as masters women playing the same course on TUES MORN - only the 20 playing TUES afternoon - then on WED they play one round with only 20 - THURS the play both rounds with the field of ADV legends which is only 4 more people - then FRI they are just the 20 again.

So OBVIOUSLY there is room to expand and I hope to see that happen.

I know the Dillen girls as well as Lorelei for sure would be signing up on MAY 1 (if allowed to) as well as probably some others who were screwed with the late changes also.

Keith

Yes, a transportation plan for juniors has been prepared by the Host Committee for approval. It will cover both rides to/from courses and entertainment options. Details will be included in player information packets scheduled for release May 14.

Default Registration in process?

I have registered in the Am Masters division and received an email confirmation of the purchase from the PDGA store, but no other communication from PDGA. It doesn't look like the list of participants has been updated on the Events/Results page in a few days. Can I assume that I am in, and start making travel/hotel reservations?

Thanks,
Isaac

Disclaimer: I'm not a PDGA nor registration official, but as a member of the Host Committee I can tell you that I experienced the same thing, and have heard similar from a number of others; don't worry about it. The updates are only periodic until closer to open registration, so this isn't abnormal. Kinda itchy to see your name there for the first time, though, I know.

How do they decide how many players per division make it to the semi-finals?

It is usually the top 25%. I have no idea how they decide that.

For Worlds, semi final cuts are set so that just about everyone who would cash will make it. So that's a little over 40% for Ams and 35% for pros. But MA1 is capped at 72. Smaller divisions have to be large enough to have a semi that would need to be more than 4 players. Otherwise, they just have a cut to the finals.

At the last Am Worlds they allowed 36%, 33% and 34% of the players from the largest three divisions to play the semi-finals. The 36% looks like it was selected as "The most players the course can accomodate while avoiding the necessity of having a tie breaker for the last foursome." 36% was four short of a full field, but taking a full field would have necessitated a tie breaker. Probably the 33% and 34% were likewise determined by how many players the course could accomodate in light of the divisions which were assigned to play it for their semi-final.

Apparently, 12 years later I'm still bitter.

Thanks for the link.
Looks like Junior boys will be full soon too, and I'm guessing it'll fill in no time on May 1st due to the change in Junior invite criteria.

Myself and another guy are planning on coming to Charlotte the weekend of 4-20 thru 23. we are actually planing on heading that way on the 19th after work. i guess it will put us there around 10:30 or 11.we are planning on playing as many World courses as possiable in those 4 days (we have never played any of the courses and would welcome the company of someone that knows the courses). I was wondering if anyone would be willing to open there home to us with nothing needed more than floor space. we are willing to provide beer or dinner out (your choice) or some cash as a thank you. i am on face book under Jimmy Stanley. Please feel free to message me there.

thanks

Jimmy - re-post your note on the Guest Area section of the Charlotte Disc Golf Club board:
http://charlottedgc.invisionzone.com/

Give it a subject line something like "Headed to Charlotte 4/19-23." There are many people headed our way pre-Worlds and CDGC members are happy to help.
