Chas
I researched houses and townhouses. i found a townhouse for $800 from saturday the 14th until saturday the 21st. 4 of us are splitting the cost. farthest course was 45 mins away. 20 mins from the blake hotel. you might want to search "vacation houses charlotte nc".

Check out VRBO.com (vacation rentals by owner). We found our townhouse rental in Kansas City for 2009 and for Charlotte we've rented a quaint downtown apartment. For some this is a more desired alternative than staying in a hotel for 7 to 10 days...

I totally agree. you have a washer/dryer, your own kitchen, a area to lay back and relax after a hard days round with sofa and recline and they are usually cleaner. also will house more people therefore less cost person. Yes VRBO.com is where i found this.

Run that by my wife she prefers a Motel kind of narrowed it down to matthews area or Rock hill SC. Matthews cause closer to the courses AM Grandmasters will be playing but Rock Hill seems to be quieter neighborhood. Any help from the locals?

Well I am not a local but I have been down to Rock Hill a few times spectating at the USDGC, and I would recommend the Econo Lodge, inexpensive, and a decent place to stay from my experience.

Any chance advanced masters women would be in the same pool as advanced women?

Advanced Masters Women are not with Advanced Women except both are playing different Elon courses one afternoon. Adv Master Women are pooled with Adv GM Women and the two oldest Junior girls divisions. You'll play a few rounds with other smaller divisions like the Pro Master and GM women.

I am Debbie Scott, the social media coordinator for the World tournament.

We shared your concerns about The Blake with their management, and below is the response. Also know that the 2012 Worlds Host Committee made sure of The Blake’s suitability before the contract was signed. This is also one of the principal hotels slated for use by delegations to the Democratic National Convention. The reviews do not reflect conditions we will see for the week of 2012 Worlds.

“Thank you for your concerns. Please know that we are currently renovating the entire North Tower of the hotel, which is closed to hotel guests. The recent comments have been about this tower.

“The South Tower, which is a separate tower and the tower 2012 Worlds guests will be in, has been open for a number of years and with the exception of the Beer Garden mentioned in the report, this tower isn't part of the recent comments. The Beer Garden is under construction and is another area also closed to hotel guests.

“The meeting and convention space is open for use, is safe and is not an area to be concerned about. Hot water issues have been addressed with two new boilers.”

Sincerely,
Jerry Lotich,
The Blake Hotel

Default Tornado damage Charlotte

See CNN has coverage of Reedy Creek area closed because of March 2nd tornadoes.

Is everyone OK and what is the condition of the courses?

Sorry Cindy. This is one area where in recent years the preferences of men, based on theoretical ideas about ratings and skill level, have consistantly won out over the expressed preferences of the women competitors who would like to play in the same pool as their daughters, sisters and travelling companions.

Yay my travel buddy will be playing in advanced women, and it would have made it so much easier to be in the same pool. Oh well

I just went to register in the MA1 division and noticed the 935+ in parentheses. Does that mean that I have to be rated that high to compete even though I recieved an invite? Thanks!

Is it possible to compete in just the field events and dubs if you aren't playing in Worlds? (I was invited, just have other things to do that week)

No - there are no lower divisions (except Juniors) offered at Worlds - so ADV is where you would play unless age or Gender protected.

Yes - just choose the field Events or doubles options you wish from the drop down box on the registration page.

Default Same pool as travelling partners?

In the past worlds registration forms have allowed you to specify other individuals with whom you are sharing transportation, to request that you be placed in the same pool. I don't see that on the 2012 form. Any plan to accommodate that?

It is unlikely due to the sheer numbers expected. With more than 1,000 entrants in 25 divisions spread across fourteen courses it would be very difficult to accommodate pool requests. Plus, who's playing where is a crap shoot after the 2nd-day shuffle, anyway. The Host Committee is looking at ways to make it easier for players to arrange car pools with others playing the same schedule.
