What size shirt do you wear C-Ware?
How about Blake Nicholson and JD Baker (they also won shirts)? I'll try to get the shirts to Lou to take to the Bart mini tomorrow. |

Wow, what a great Ice Bowl we had at Zilker. The weather was perfect and the turnout was HUGE!
We had 186 people; 50 more than we’ve ever had before. We raised $750 for Capital Area Food Bank, which is the most cash we’ve ever gotten in our 9 years of Ice Bowls. We also raised 359 pounds of food, which is the 2nd most amount of food. (Our grand total for the 9 years is: $4,732 cash plus 2,282 pounds of food) A BIG THANK YOU to all our great sponsors. DISC NATION is one of the club’s biggest sponsors and always comes through for us, this time with some great gift certificates. Don’t forget that you can join the club or renew your membership through their web site. You can also buy club stamped discs from them that help us with our fundraising. MILLENNIUM, HOUCKDESIGN AND WORLD’S BIGGEST – as Disc Golf and as Austin as it gets! John & Dee brought a bunch of pizzas and sodas that not only helped ease the hunger after the round, but helped raise some money as we were able to sell the slices for $1 or $2. And it was good tasting pizza too! PLAY IT AGAIN SPORTS is also a regular supporter and chipped in some great gift certificates for 5-5-5. SHIRTS420.COM donated a ton of their shirts plus donated ½ of all the proceeds from the shirts sold during the event. RANDY GERDE sent a big box (and a really cool box at that) of smoked salmon from the Great Northwest. DAN MUELLER donated an Innova Disc Catcher Sport basket that was won by Hugh Pickett in the raffle. SUSAN MACALUSO sent a bunch of great tie dye! TEAM JUSTICE brought some awesome discs and stuff from their HOTT tour. And lots of folks brought discs, shirts, minis and other goodies to give away in 5-5-5 and the raffle, including MATT KESSLER JON PEACOCK JAY & DES READING WADE KOLB JIM WADDINGTON MARK MCCRIMMON M’LOW STEVE LOESCHEN SOUTH AUSTIN DISC ASSOCIATION And there are probably a few I’m missing as it was a bit chaotic that morning ![]() I hope to be able to post the full results soon on the Waterloo Club website, www.austindiscgolf.org In the meantime our division winners were: Rec Women Jenny Cane & Stephanie Allen 80 Int Women Amanda Aporte (Aponte?) 72 Pro Women Shannon Bowles 68 Rec Men Mike Haymond 63 Int Men Matt Papa 60 Adv.Grand Master Chip Groat 64 Adv.Master Ric Johnson 61 Advanced Men Paul Machado 58 Pro Master John Hovey 56 Open Pro Micah Winters & Alex Downs 55 We had some small donated prizes for first place in each division; most winners picked theirs up, but we still owe a little something to Jenny Cane, Stephanie Allen, Ric Johnson, and John Hovey. And we had 3 aces: Billy West #2 south Cameron Hardy #D (temporary hole) Zach Doggett #8 north Finally, thank you to all the staff who made everything run as smoothly as possible: Lou Moreno, Brad Granier, Laura Hovey, Stevo Barnes, Dan Mueller, Todd Golden, Matt Burton, Matt Kessler, Cesar Arguelles, JR (or is it RT?) Escobedo, Roger Allen, Rick Amaya, and Sheldon Parker And thanks also to Gary Barron for donating a keg in honor of his 70th birthday; and to Sheldon Parker who also brought a keg. Cheers, Waterloo Disc Golf Club |

Online pre-registration is now available!
As a reminder, it will be very different this year with 2 Flights. Instead of trying to get 175-180 people playing all at once like we did last year, we are going to split into 2 Flights with a maximum of 90 people in each; Flight 1 will tee-off at 10 AM and Flight 2 will tee-off at 2 PM. This means it is very important to pre-register so that you are sure to be able to play in the flight that you want. Click here to go straight to the registration page: http://www.discnation.com/Waterloo-I...l-p-20414.html |

Pre-registrations are coming in at a good pace, around 25 of them already; most of them choosing to play in Flight 1 (tees at 10 am).
Click here to pre-register through Disc Nation: http://www.discnation.com/Tournament...p-1-c-291.html or mail it in soon; it has to ARRIVE at the club's PO Box by Friday, Feb 5th. WDGC, PO Box 33531, Austin, TX, 78746 The flights will only hold 90 players each, so pre-register now to get the flight of your choice. |

It looks like the weather just might give us a nice Ice Bowl day on Saturday, with the rain taking a break for a couple of days.
However, Zilker is going to be very muddy. The Parks Dept has gotten us some mulch (which apparently is in very high demand right now), and the use of some equipment, so we are going to have a short workday to get it spread prior to the Ice Bowl. The Dept should be dumping it in many of the areas it needs to go, but it will be up to us to take it from there. Tomorrow, Friday Feb 5th, in the early-to-mid afternoon, we need some volunteers to help spread this mulch. We’ll have some rakes and shovels available, but if you have your own and can bring it, please do. Better to have to many than not enough. Dan Mueller is heading out there about 1:30 pm or a little after, and Mike Olse and Josh Rippie will be out there earlier (helping get the mulch out to its locations), so please come out and help if you can. Dan can be reached at 293-7592 if you have any questions. |

Speaking of Ice Bowl, we could use a few extra volunteers on Saturday to help run it. With 2 flights, it will be possible for all the volunteers to also play. But it also means that we will need some folks around at all times to help with check-in / registration as well as membership/renewal drives, sales, plus our putting game and our 5-5-5 CTP game. If you can help out, please let me know. We’ll be getting to the park about 7:30 am to unload and get everything set up so we can begin checking people in at 8:30 am.
We could also really use some more sponsors. We need merchandise, gift certificates, etc to give away in our raffle, CTP and putting games, plus a few other prizes. Even if you can only bring a disc or shirt or mini, please do so. Everything we receive we will give away! So far we have our major sponsors Millennium, World’s Biggest Disc Golf Weekend, and Disc Nation. We also have commitments/merch from Wanna Play Disc Golf, Sister Sue Dye 4 U, little e - Fairway Factory, DGU – Disc Golf United, and shirts420.com. Thank you so much to all our supporters!!! PRE-REGISTRATION: Pre-registration has gone really well. We have over 45 people already signed up, with most of them choosing to play in Flight 1. Each flight can only hold 90 people, so if there is a particular flight in which you wish to play, it would be best to go ahead and pre-register. It is pretty much too late to do it by mail (we’d have to have it in our PO Box by tomorrow), so your best option is to go to the Disc Nation web site and sign up online. The site will only be accepting pre-registrations until noon tomorrow (Friday), so don’t delay. The link is: http://www.discnation.com/product.php?productid=20414 As a reminder, Flight 1 tees off at 10 am; and Flight 2 tees off at 2 pm. Starting at 8:30 am on Saturday morning, we will begin checking people in and taking registrations for any available spots. Everyone who registers, whether through pre-registration or by showing up on Saturday and getting a spot, will get an Ice Bowl disc or Ice Bowl t-shirt. However, what disc you get, or what size/color t-shirt you get, or if you want to upgrade to a long-sleeve shirt or better quality disc, is all on a first-come-first-choice basis. We will have enough Ice Bowl merchandise to cover all 180 players if we fill up both flights, so if you are pre-registered in the 2 pm flight, you don’t have to be there first thing in the morning. But if you want a particular item (like a Large long-sleeve shirt or a champion boss instead of a dx roc or dx aviar) then the earlier you get there the better chance we’ll still have what you want. We’ll have a putting game going all day and the 5-5-5 CTP game going all day, plus a big raffle and maybe some other stuff too, so bring extra dollars, bring a jacket, and come have a great Ice Bowl day at Zilker with Waterloo Disc Golf Club! |

A couple of things to note:
There will be only 1 flight this year, with a MAXIMUM of 126 people (21 holes w/ 6 players each). Online pre-registration will be available through www.discnation.com, but it isn’t quite ready just yet. It will be soon though, and we’ll post a note once it is up and running. Though it doesn’t say it on the flyer, you can also pre-register by mailing your entry to the club: Check/money order payable to: WDGC Mail to: WDGC, PO Box 33531, Austin, TX 78764 Thanks! Just a reminder about the Waterloo Club’s Ice Bowl coming up on Saturday at Zilker Park. On-line pre-registration through Disc Nation is going strong, and we have over 30 people already confirmed. There will only be 1 flight this year, and the maximum number of people that can play is 126.
Here is a link to the Disc Nation events section: http://www.discnation.com/Tournaments-Events.html We could really use some more sponsorship for this event. We aren’t asking for any big amount from anyone, but a disc or two here, a shirt there, or even non-disc related stuff is great too. We need things to give away in our CTP game (5-5-5), and some raffle prizes too. Our raffle grand prize will be a brand new Discatcher Sport Basket, so bring some extra money for raffle tickets and the CTP contest. We already have confirmed as sponsors: Disc Nation, Twin Parks Country Club, and Sister Sue Dye 4 U; thanks Y’all!!! If you can donate something, please let me know so I can add you to our sponsor list, then just bring it to the park on Saturday. If you would like to make a monetary donation as sponsorship, you can do so by check and you can make it payable to Capital Area Food Bank so that you get the tax deduction credit for it (they will mail you a letter for your tax records). We could also use some help during the day, especially for food. We’d like to do something similar to what we had at the Pease Memorial minis, something easy and basic like sausage wraps, with maybe chips and cookies. And hot chocolate too – it looks like it will be cold that morning. There is a regular grill down there, but it takes charcoal. A gas grill would be much more convenient and easier to get started and re-started. So we are looking for someone (or a few someones) who can bring down a grill, buy some food and some drinks/cups, cook the food and heat the water (yeah… I know, the hardest part is boiling the water), sell and serve the food and drinks. We’d love to have hot chocolate available in the morning (and maybe later in the day if it stays cold), and food available both before and after the round. Please let me know if you can help with some part of this. We need to get it set up and organized in advance so that it is easy to deal with on Saturday. We will also likely need some help getting set-up in the morning, and getting people registered/checked in, getting their merch; you know, running them down the gauntlet of that long picnic table we use .Finally, as a reminder, it is limited this year to 126 people only, so pre-registration is advised, or show up early to sign up that morning. We will start taking signups at 11 am, but in past years we have usually had a good sized line already waiting by then. The parking lot by the polo picnic tables and the north part of the course will fill up quickly. There is the smaller lot by the south part of the course, and there are a few other lots along the park road BEFORE you get to the course. Even if you have pre-registered, the discs and shirts are still first come, first choice. We have lots of DX discs and short sleeve shirts, but types, colors, weights, sizes, etc of each are limited. We also have long sleeve shirts for an extra $5 and some better discs, including a few Innova INNcolor and Discraft Supercolor discs, ranging in price from an extra $6 to an extra $25. So the earlier you get there, the more likely you’ll find just what you want. Phew, this ended up being a lot longer than I planned. Have a great week, stay warm, and we hope to see you on Saturday for another fun Ice Bowl! Gordon |

Thank You to everyone who came out to Zilker on Saturday for Waterloo’s 12th Annual Ice Bowl!
* We had more than a full field, but not too many more so we managed to get everyone in.* J * We did have one problem at the end though:* one of the players had his bag picked up at the end of the night by someone else. It was a black Innova bag with 18 discs (though there was no name on the discs). * We're hoping it was mistaken identity rather than someone intentionally stealing it. Either way though, please help us get this bag back.* We aren’t interesting in nailing anyone to the wall, we just want to get his discs and bag back for him (and we’d do the same for any of you too).* You can email the club at gordon@ventbird.com or call the club’s cell phone number (512-994-9508) if you have this missing bag or if you know who does – no questions asked. Thanks for the cooperation! * We gave away an Innova Discatcher Sport Basket in the raffle.* It was claimed that night, but we do still have a few more unclaimed prizes.* The list is below, so if you have any of these raffle tickets just let us know. * * Raffle # Prize 1 CLAIMED Innova Discatcher Sport Basket 2 6527 Waterloo Club Membership (1 year) 3 CLAIMED Disc Nation $20 Certificate 4 CLAIMED Disc Nation $20 Certificate 5 CLAIMED Disc Nation $20 Certificate 6 CLAIMED Joe Boxer disc + Whole Foods bag + Innova sticker 7 CLAIMED Guiness Tie Dye shirt + Innova sticker 8 CLAIMED White Innova shirt + Innova sticker 9 6564 Small Blue Dell Shirt + Innova sticker + orange Waterloo disc 10 CLAIMED Small Blue Dell Shirt + Innova sticker + Alamo City disc 11 6682 Small Blue Dell Shirt + Innova sticker + Innova Xmas disc 12 CLAIMED 4X Blue Dell Shirt + Innova sticker + Red Worlds Biggest disc 13 CLAIMED Amateur entry into a C-Tier Team Justice event + Innova sticker 14 6560 Shot glass + Hat + Innova sticker 15 6557 Small Dell Dry Sport shirt + Innova sticker 16 CLAIMED Amateur entry into a C-Tier Team Justice event + Innova sticker * * There are a couple of things to finalize on the results, but we should have those posted sometime tomorrow on the club’s website (in the Community Forums section) and on the PDGA Discussion Board.* We’ll also have more information tomorrow about the donation to Capital Area Food Bank and how the day went. * There are also a lot of pictures already posted on the club’s Facebook page. * Thanks, Waterloo Disc Golf Club |

Waterloo Disc Golf Club would like to thank the sponsors of this year’s Ice Bowl:
Disc Nation Team Justice Captain Kirk Barnes Contracting Sister Sue Dye 4 U Mark McCrimmon Jeremy Mount Wade Kolb Tim Payne Aissa Gines Blu Romero Plus all the people who contributed to the Father Dave Tayloe Bag ‘o Shwag CTP prize. Byron Kurka won the CTP with a shot 11 ½ inches from #9 on Zilker’s south side. We had a great staff again this year. All these people stepped up and helped out, some a little, some a lot, making it possible to put on such a fun, fantastic event: Roger Allen, Stephanie Allen, Jazmine Arguelles, Stevo Barnes, Rich Collins, Dale Gibbins, Chip Groat, Phil Haik, Troy Herman, James McCaine, Jeremy Mount, Matt Papa, Sheldon Parker, Josh Rippie, Aaron Stair, Del Stair, Joe Torrence, Rick Vigil. Our 5-5-5 CTP winners were: Gus Calvo (who aced the front left basket), Hugh Picket, Andre Pesez, Theron Fisk, and Tony (Dieterich I think, but might have been Ruiz). All received Disc Nation gift certificates plus a stack of other donated prizes. We gave away a basket in our raffle, plus some more Disc Nation certificates and other prizes AND 2 amateur entries to a 2012 Team Justice C-Tier event. Hadley Stuart and David Corder will soon be taking part in an awesome Team Justice tournament J We had 139 players, 6 people who paid but didn’t play, and 4 who were non-playing staffers, for a total of 149 people. And finally… we raised 169 pounds of food (equating to 155 meals) plus $600 in cash (lots and lots of meals) for our charity: Capital Area Food Bank. Thanks again, the club looks forward to doing this all again in 2013! |

More information will be coming soon, but mark your calendars now for Waterloo Disc Golf Club’s 13th Annual Ice Bowl.
Saturday, February 2, 2013 Zilker Park Should be very similar to our previous Ice Bowls – including lots of great people and plenty of fun disc golf. If you can help with the planning of it, or help volunteer on the day of the event, please let me know. And just because you volunteer to work that day doesn’t mean you can’t play too ![]() Email me at gordon@ventbird.com or call the club cell phone, 512-994-9508. Thanks!
