Talking 7-22-2010 Results

Wind was a little up in Bartlesville but it just made it cooler.
We had 23 out for tonights Mini.

Seth Cook made out with an ACE on Hole #12.
Our first paid Mini Ace for $110.
He also walked away with the CTP for $14.
He also placed 3rd in the mini for $15.
For a grand Total of $139.

Tonight was handicap night and everyone was in one group.
I used the averages of everyones scores this year.
Used an 80% of par 50 formula Chuch Kennedy put out a few years ago.
23 player paid 7 spots.
$29,$20,$15,$9,$7,$5,$3

Keep in Mind 50 - 52 would be shooting average.

Matt Miller 40.23
Daniel Tibbs 42.74
Seth Cook 47.39
Dale Patterson 47.99
Kevin Walker 48.37
Christian Walsh 48.57
Mo Elhefney 50.17
Jesse Brooks 50.59
Jessica Lancaster 50.65
Roger Burrow 52.24
Norm Brassfield 52.60
Gordon Hall 52.99
Wade Oller 53.00
Dan Johnson 53.17
Bobby Clarke 53.63
Corey Olivarez 54.56
Brian Schultes 56.74
Jimmy Haase 56.98
Tyler Wilson 57.25
Cheyene Spencer 58.99
Chris Stine 61.21

9 of 21 players shot 50 something or better. 12 shot 52.?? or better,
System seems to do fairly well with the exception of those quickly improving.
Noted by the 40 and the 42
There were 2 new players not included in these scores.

With the reseed our Ace Pot is now $85

If You can make it to Bville next Thursday we will be here at 6pm again.

Also we will be having a Moonlight Mini Next Friday at 8:30pm.
Signups start at 8pm.

Thanks to all who attended.

Talking Handicap Numbers

Quote:

Pual, I shot -8 with about a -6.5 avg.
I did some more figuring trying to weigh how fair this ended up playing out.
The system is trying to Level everyone at a score of around 50.
If you average 50 your handicap is 0.
My average was below 50 so I had to give shots to those over 50 avg.
If you average all 21 handicap adjusted scores the average is: 49.62.
So based on the numbers it looks like it worked fairly well.

This is a system published online by Chuck Kennedy several years back.
This system uses 80% of scratch/par is what the USGA uses for handicapping.
50 as par, was one of the sheets he had available it seemed to be a good number for the bartlesville course.

DGU also has a system available online, but it costs.
I have run 2 or 3 small events using 100% of the difference in 54 several times.
It seemed like MOST of the time the highest handicaps EASILY won.
So I thought I would try the 80% factor and it seems to work well.

The guy that averages 65 has an easier chance to shoot 55 than...
Me whose average is 47.5 and my best is 42 only room for 5 more shots...
(Thats what happend last night Matt Miller playing left handed shot 54 with about a 65 avg)
65 has about a -12 handicap, 47.5 has right at a +2 handicap.
That is 14 strokes difference in handciap.... But the raw scoring average difference is 17.5.
So there is a little buffer for the lower scoring pros
since they don't have as much room to go low.
Thats why 50 seemed like a good 0 handicap number..

Fair ??? .... Seems like it did Fairly Well.

I love crunching numbers, but dang... you put a lot into thinking this system through... seems like a good thing!

I love the idea of it being an equal playing field. except it is hard on guys like you with higher averages.

Default me too

yes the 80% thing is a standard in ball (USGA) golf and the system has been tried and true for a really long time they have something called a Callaway system for players that have no verifiable or provable handicap but it is different it takes score over par and allows a player to drop one or more worst holes from the round based on their un-adjusted final score you would have to talk to a course pro that runs club tournaments with member guests events to get the low down on that one.

We used this system when we first started mini tournaments at Ben Geren and had very few players, it worked very well, I found it neat how close some results can be with rarely the same few guys winning all the time, it's neat to see a way that a 800 rated guy can compete with a 1000 rated player

My main motivation was to give everybody a chance.
Most times no matter what divsions people enter
there is a large spread between the best and worst.
That can be discouraging for players who are new and trying to get better.
I will be doing this on a monthly basis to try and give those guys a chance.
Hopefully they won't just give up and go away.
I hope.

You're getting great turn outs Dale. I think the handicap deal is really cool.

Bartlesville is now one of the most active Disc Golf towns in the state.

Way to go Dale!!

I still want that Woolaroc tournament. Maybe run it as a fund raiser??

Keep the flame burning....

Things will have to work out just right.
Some details will need to be worked out 1st.
9 or 18 holes, Temp Baskets, Permission :P

The open range area is not really in play.
Are you familiar with the nature trails area.
Wooded, Elevation Change, Nice setting.
That might be our best bet.

I meet with our CEO Monday, I will mention the idea...
and see how he responds.

Talking Bartlesville AND PAWHUSKA Minis

In addition to our regular minis on Thursdays 6pm in August at Sooner Park in Bville...
There will be Minis in a new location up North :O)

THE LODGE

To give those a chance to play who can't make it to Tulsa or Bartlesville for Minis....
And to give Jim a chance to encourage more Pawhuska youth to play...
There will be four in August leading up to Okie Dubs.

Saturday August 7th Noon, $10 Mini, For those who can't make it to States in OKC.
Tuesday August 10th $5 Mini, 5:30pm Rolling Start. Last card at 6:15pm.
Monday August 16th $5 Mini, 5:30pm Rolling Start. Last card at 6:15pm.
Monday Augst 23rd $5 Mini, 5:30pm Rolling Start. Last card at 6:15pm.

We will be playing the Island Course.
We will likely have the Pros playing Blues. We will see if the light holds... :P
And the lower fields playing the white and red tees.

Come on out if you can,
Looking forward to starting a new chapter
at one of the coolest places The Lodge.

I know these are on top of Tulsa Minis. Sorry there aren't any open days left. :P
These are meant to develop more locals not pull away from Tulsa.
Thanks
D.P.
