Hi Dave,

So whats up with the newest lightweight Star Boss? I have developed a cult following for the 167-168g that show the Starlight mix. The newest are really grippy and dont show the leftover residue. Are they still going to have the same flight lines or is there something different so you dont need the Starlight mix anymore?

The light ones still use the Starlight, but we are getting a little better at it. It's tricky. They still should be very stable to over stable. 166-168gm. Higher weight than that and it's hit and miss as to the stability. Rarely they go down to 165g, but get even more over stable.

Dave,

I have owned or seen some of the champion rhynos that have DX stamps on them. Were these x-outs or was the stamp intentional and is this a rare run? I have seen very many champion discs with DX stamps. Thanks.

Sorry, I don't know anything about a run of Champion Rhyno with a DX stamp.

They werent X-Outs, just a unnumbered run of Champion with the DX stamp. Ive seen a few dozen over the years and owned a few. Alot of Team discs and samplers are/were sent out with DX stamps, but I wouldnt say its common by any means.

Id hang onto that Rhyno.

I think the big question was really rather or not it should be considered an x-out. I cant imagine an x-out getting a dx stamp. The ones I have had no bubbles or flaws in plastic. I always heard they were rather rare. Just hopeing to get some validation on it.

I have 2 clear clear rhyno's with a DX stamp. They are not X-Outs or Factory Seconds. They have no such labeling on them to state that they are.

Hey Donny,

Nothing on the horizon. I don't know if you have seen all the 159gm discs we have been making.

Hey Dave,

What happened to your plans to make a boss speed disc w/ xcal like stability?

Thanks,

We made several different models specifically for the Japan Open competition that fly very much the same way the heavies do. Star Destroyers, Star Katanas, Star Darts, KC Aviars, R-Pro Rocs, TeeBirds, Banshees, P2s, Monarchs, and a few others. These should make competing in Japan, much easier a transition for the international players.

I must say Dave, that's a pretty good marketing scheme by allowing discs up to 159 grams to be thrown. Everyone going to Japan is gonna want to buy 159.9 if possible.

I have never been to the JO, but i assume that each person's bag gets emptied out and each disc is weighted to ensure each disc is legal.

Is this true?

Yes. The way it was done in 2008, was a stamp was put on certified discs. That year the max was 152. This year it is 159.9gm.

Dave,
Are there any plans to make a new fast and overstable disc? I'm thinking something with Max-like stability with Destroyer-like speed. It's tough for those of us with big arms to get big D in heavy winds using what is currently available. Even Xcalibers aren't cutting it. I've been throwing my XCal with a huge hyzer into a headwind, and it still rolls over.

Could also be a form issue, unless your throwing into 50 mph winds. Just saying.

It's not OAT, believe me. It comes out hyzer, slowly rolls past flat, and finally all the way over. A couple of my local pro's said the same thing as you, until they watched me do it.

The CFR Glow Destroyer replaced my Xcal because the Xcal was getting flippy. It's been in the bag for a few weeks and is still overstable into a headwind.

We are planning to make a more over stable Boss at some point. You might try to get a hold of a 166-167gm Starlight Boss. Most are pretty stable to very over stable.

..Or maybe some of the S-XC version Xcaliber. The CFR Glo versions are also pretty overstable.

Starlights are beef. Over a year in the bag and can still throw a turnover that wont stay turned over.

Hi Dave,

I got some S-TB marked Star Teebirds today, but thought the initial run of Star had the same thing on the back. Are these just old mixed with new or are they part of a stabilized run like the other stuff designated with the "S" first?

Thank You.

I don't think they are a part of a stabilized run. S-TB is the normal designation for Star TeeBirds.

Hey Donny. I guess you have to talk to Mark in the office. He might know. I have no clue and I am leaving for Japan tomorrow morning, so I don't think I can find out before then.

thanks for the info. i'll be first in line for these.

the champs that i have are far more durable than the dx, slightly moreso than the star. more importantly, the champs seem to have a more consistent and controllable late turn right (RHBH) and can even be thrown very straight at mid-speed. the stars that i've thrown seem to flip over very quickly out of the hand at a wider array of speeds. i tend to favor max weight champ stingrays where others throw seasoned rocs. i do throw a champ roc when i need an overstable approach disc, but the stingray just feels more natural for a utility/mid-range disc.
