At Morley, an advanced player shoots 4 to 8 down, pros shoot digits or better.

If you don't get there by 7 am, it will take 6 hours to play a round. If you are an early bird, you'll have a good time. A good advanced score would be -6, open would be -10...

Here's an interesting one. I lost a disc a few weeks ago at Montiel, in the snake rocks on Hole #7. Looked for it for at least 15 minutes, no find. I just got a call from the Morley Pro Shop telling me that the disc is in their lost'n'found box. Huh??
We used to tell a joke about Frisbeeterians - when they die their soul turns into a disc and ends up on the roof. I'm starting to wonder if Morley is the purgatory that all lost discs go to... I mean, it can't be the $1 can it?

Well Allen , atleast you did get your disc back. I have lost 3 recently at Morley and none have been returned. A White 168 Star Wraith , A 174 Orange Tb- Teebird and a 180 10x White Roc. They all just have my name on them with no phone number. Let me know if you happen to see those anywhere. Thanks !!!!

The first two events at SV will have automatic bag tag challenges and Aces points. If you want a bag tag challenge for the eliminator, you have to make a side bet.

Roper and I got 5 open points today. Woohoo!
(No comparisons please. Roper gaffed a ten footer on the second to last hole cause he felt bad for me. He's still better than I am, for now.)

I missed the putt because I was talking trash instead of paying attention to the basket.

The monthly was fun, good to see so many people playing.
Looks like the last couple monthlies Micah actually got tied or beat in the 2nd round. There is hope after all this time. Maybe (maybe) if I hadn't taken 8 bogies my 15 birdies would have been in the hunt...maybe. |

Channel 8 recently did a short piece on disc golf at Morley Field: http://www.cbs8.com/global/story.asp?s=12379335
It's kind of formulaic (e.g., "Wow, how many discs do you have in that backpack? Do you use them all?") and has the requisite well-executed Snapper interview, but it's just the type of news story the sport needs to bit-by-bit capture the attention of the general public. Lots of footage of Greg Olsen, too.

That would be nice, but after talking to lots of reporters (Sports and General News) over the past few years I don't get the impression that they are interested in reporting on our competitions yet. Spending a few minutes on disc golf in the sports segment of a TV newscast takes away those minutes from Padres coverage, or Chargers or Tiger's mistresses, but I digress. Until our sport gets to the point that 50% of the population knows what disc golf is and has played it, we only merit the 2-minute "human interest" story at the end of the newscast.
But, it's worth a try, if someone has an in to a TV person. An alternative is to start sending results from every local competition to the newspapers, and they'll put it in the "Community Sports" or "Local Sports" section that runs once or twice a week. Then the reporters get used to the fact that there is regular competition in our sport. I've done this off and on for Montiel and Emerald Isle, but let it fall by the wayside. One thing to keep in mind: if you're going to send results to the newspaper, you need to have players' first and last names. Newspapers won't print nicknames in the results. Sending results to the newspaper...might be a good job for a club Secretary?

Nice. I will get on top of this when I get back from Masters Cup. You are right, if they start getting used to seeing results being sent in, and maybe players start requesting more disc golf coverage, then the perception will start to change. Good ideas guys!

Well, the entries for the Spring Fling are now listed on the PDGA.com schedule, but I would be very careful when analyzing the player ratings. For example, in my division (MM1) there are at least three PDGA# typos, which result in incorrect hometowns and player ratings being displayed - I don't think Jon Berg moved to British Columbia, Dan Shorkey to Elk Grove, and I'm quite sure Miker doesn't have an 845 player rating.
Had me guessin' tho. And who's Gumby? Gomez in green makeup?

Congrats to Dan Shorkey for his win in MM1, after a bit of a layoff. I guess he came from the second card with a great round to beat the 1st round leaders. I missed out on hanging with the MM1 guys - I was placed as the only MM1 player on the MGM card in the first round, and then played poorly enough to be on the last MM1 card for the second round, which was also split with MGM.
Interesting how it all played out - I played poorly enough to be DFL in MM1 after the 1st round, even though I won my card. Then I won my card again in the second round, which pulled me up from the bottom a bit. Since I won both cards I was able to hold on to SoCal bagtag #4, which I won from Rhett the week before. The way I played I really didn't deserve to hang on to it, but that's the way it goes I guess?
